So, what is everyone going to give up for Lent? I have decided to give up three things in honor of the three persons of the Most Holy Trinity: Diet Mountain Dew, cigarettes, and my bad habit of not keeping my apartment clean. I am also, of course, going to be fasting from meat on all Fridays of Lent and doing both the fasting and abstaining on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday which is required of us.

I will observe the fasting as prescribed. But to me and my family it is more than doing what is prescribed. Lent is a time where we should be continuing to grow in Faith and Spirituality through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial.

For me I will be working with my father-in-law by praying the Rosary and Divine Mercy with him. I will also seek to look and listen for God in the world and those around me and help when I can through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving and self denial.

I always give up red meat and pork. But, this year, I'm gonna try to eat more veggies and less chicken and fish.

That sounds like a good idea Chrystal. :)

This also sounds like a good idea Jack. That said, I am going to try to grow in faith and spirituality as well. I am also going to increase my efforts at prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, and self-denial. I think I might also pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet every day at 3 PM which is the Great Hour of Mercy. I am also definitely going to be praying the Rosary every day which I am already supposed to be doing since I wear a scapular.

NOTHING!

I've given up various foods in the past, which led to me becoming "too legalistic". This year I'll fast and abstain as prescribed by the Church, but my focus will be prayer and charity towards others -- and going to daily Mass on days I don't work.

I'm sure I'll be ok for 40 days. The reason I'm giving it up is because I love hamburgers and Coney dogs. So, it's something I'll miss and hopefully it'll help (in a small way) with discipline and endurance.

Their diet also consists of fish, a lot of it, actually. They also don't add as many preservatives and chemicals to their food. Anyone who's from a farm or has eaten at a farm more than likely could tell that there was a difference in the way the meat tastes.

They also don't consume as much junk food, soft drinks, and sweets in general. Even their cigarettes are healthier (Herbal/tea vs. tobacco).

Hmmmm - I've just read that article and have to say I do fast as EOs do , meat [ that includes fish with faces and spines ] has already gone. After Sunday I will not be eating any dairy nor Olive Oil.

The exception will be Annunciation - when I will be allowed Fish and Oil for the celebration.

Great and Holy Week - well my chances of eating will be very limited as I'll be in Church a good part of the time - I can't eat until after Presanctified on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday , and since I'm away from home that will prove a problem - hopefully I'll manage better than I did last year

Music, TV/movies, Shopping. Things that are distractions or that I've recently been too much attached to. I hope to read and write more, do things that I often neglect. Even if it's not something spiritual/focused on God, such as reading a book for fun, at least I will still be in silence, as much as I can be depending on the noise of my surroundings. I also want to focus more on the spirituality of St Therese.

Do your best :) Presanctified is so beautiful. Do you pray the Great Canon of St. Andrew?
