So, if you ran into one today, it would be of no, or utmost importance?

Fair enough. (I'm not arguing denominations, just heresy itself.)

{We would not take a brother or sister to church court b/c of heresy if they are not particularly taught or trained at that level of scripture reading,church teaching, doctrine etc}

Well now, the question was the elimination of heresy, not heretics. I took that to mean teaching truth and always opposing falsehood. I really don't see how one can rank that low on the list of priorities.

:thumbsup:

Well someone gets it.

Even if we know ourselves that we cannot fully banish it, that doesn't mean we should throw our hands up in futility. A daily step by step plodding along and refuting legitimate errors as we go (versus differences of opinion that may or may not be true but that have nothing to do with the gospel's end goal of repentance and salvation, Who God is, etc.) is demanded of us. Otherwise, we will not soon recognize our faith in public.

What? I got it too. That does not mean that the heresies and falsehoods themselves cannot be defined and discussed.

The discussion of specific heresies was not the point of this thread.

Did Christ God not run the money changes off and turn over the tables?

Wrong teaching... wrong practice... bad.

Christ can do that. Doesn't mean we should start overturning the tables of merchants or that he intended that we do so.

"Heresy (from Greek αἵρεσις, which originally meant "choice") is an accusation levied against members of another group which has beliefs which conflict with those of the accusers."

Paraphrase:

Do not take communion with heretics.

Why on earth would we conclude that holy communion was the particular reference/meaning there? It sounds like "avoid them." And there is nothing about heresy in particular.

That's because you dont see the Anaphora in that scripture. In fact, I bet you don't see it anywhere in scripture.
