so im out of things to read until the next Wheel of time book comes out. and i picked up the first game of thrones. not sure if im gunna like it though. Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time author) gave it good reviews. but its really dark so far and im not that far into it. i also picked up the first Mistborn book by Brandon Sanderson. hes the author who is finishing The Wheel of Time series after Jordan died.

so anyone got any suggestions for other series for someone who loves The Wheel of Time? i also really liked The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. my two favorite series ever.

i like series and i like fantasy. anyone got any recommendations?

Here's a couple for you:

Jim Butcher: His Dresden Files are great, a bit dark, but amazing. His "Codex Alera" series was very good, it's high fantasy like the WoT.

Patricia Briggs: Her "Mercy Thompson" Series is a great Urban Fantasy series. If you want more High Fantasy like WoT check out Dragon Bones and Dragon Blood, as well as Raven's Shadow and Raven's Strike.

I could keep going on about Fantasy, let me know if you want more.

I have not. I'll have to check it out. I do love me so fantasy. Right now I'm reading a great book by Adam Stemple (Jane Yolen's son, if that means anything).

The chronicles of amber was my first high fantasy series and wheel of time was my second. And game if thrones makes 3. Ive read young adult and teen books mostly because I was a lot younger when I started the series and they're finally ending or getting close to ending. They are very good though. I'm looking to get into more of the fantasy genre seeing how much I've liked CoA and WoT. Hoping I'll like GoT as well.

If you thought A GAme of Thrones was getting too dark for you I suggest dropping the Song of Fire and Ice series now.

You might like Sword of Shanarra.

I think Marrion Zimmer Bradley is worth a shot. In some ways it is not strictly fantasy or it at least is on the border of fantasy and science fiction. One could consider the magic an alternate technology.

I'll say no more about the series and it has been so long tha I could not tell you where to start. I will mention that Zimmer Bradley is one of the few authors who has embraced her fans trying their hand in her world, with good results. It does give some different looks.

How about Tolkien? Lord of the Rings? The Silmarillion?

Most of the Eternal Champion cycles by Michael Moorcock are pretty cool -- Elric of Melnibone, Hawkmoon/Castle Brass saga, Chronicles of Corum, Erekose, etc. The cycles are interconnected in that the protagonist of each is an incarnation of the Eternal Champion in the cosmic, Multiversal struggle between Law and Chaos. They're shorter books (comparable to the Amber volumes) but imaginative and fast-paced.

I would also strongly recommend the Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson. The final book in the series (10 novels, 4 novellas) was published last year. The first novel in the series is by far the weakest, but overall the series is pretty incredible.

Another, older science-fantasy series you may dig (based on your interest in Amber) would be Philip Jose Farmer's World of Tiers.

If you like historical fiction with swordfights and a little romance, try The Huguenot Sword by Shawn Lamb. She also has a fantasy series, Allon, which I have not read. My husband and I also have some historical fiction (Youth, YA and adult romance), and Sci-Fi as well. We have a blog, elkjerkyforthesoul at wordpress. Our books are linked down the right side. They are ebooks, which can be read on your computer or any ereader (Smashwords has multiple formats). Hope you will try some of these!
