Where there is immoral behavior, why does the text of the OP only note the need to be carved away from the immoral behavior of those of low or no income ?

Is immoral action somehow not immoral if one uses it to gain wealth ?

Paul called greed idolatry.

Why tacitly idolize those who commit idolatry ?

! If God blesses you with wealth, it is so that you can share it with the needy, not so you can keep it to yourself and buy lots of possessions. Unlike in the world where you build up treasures by getting money and goods, you build up treasures in heaven by giving your money and your time to the less fortunate. I believe that St. John Chrysostom said that the poor are the salvation of the wealthy, because without the poor to help, the wealthy would not be saved (echoing Jesus's statement that it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than the rich to make it into the Kingdom).

sounds like a passage that reads like "heaping sin upon sin"

probably something prophetic to it .

DIVORCE AGREEMENT

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:
We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:
--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our
respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct a
nd disparate tastes.

--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.

--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops,
the NRA and the military.
--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry

and you can go with wind, solar and bio diesel.
--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of
them.

--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, home boys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.
--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.
--We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.
--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McLane. You can also have the U.N. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.
--You can give everyone health care if you can find any practicing doctors.
--We'll continue to believe health care is a luxury and not a right.
--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."
--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".

--We'll practice trickle down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin
Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & Jane Fonda with you.

P.S.S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country.

Gee, how Christ-like of the author of the letter.

Who gets the Fed ?

And Wall Street, and the Banks ?

(It is allowed for banks to write their bad debt to offshore divisions, thus making them look financially healthier than they are. It cost the Fed - and the US people - a pretty penny to cover the debts that were on the books. They used this to profit from the Carry Trade and commodity speculation; like 2008, driving billions to the brink of starvation.)

Who gets regulation ?
(The lack of regulation and oversight brought down the S&Ls, and lead to the creation and use of complex derivatives like CDSs which brought the US economy to its knees in 2008.)

Who gets Standard and Poors ?
(Who lobbied and won against the enaction of predatory lending laws - leading to the Mortgage mess and the now double dip in housing, with no recovery in sight.)

Who really does get Obama ?
(Politically, he's to the right of Bush.)

Where does Apple Computers go - they're supposedly "liberal".
(My son asked for and received 2 shares of Apple for his 10th bday; sold his investment 10 years later to buy a top of the line Mac for school.)

However the divide is envisioned, we'll end up with two states made up of an overclass and the downtrodden. Someone has to do the work for minimum wage. Someone needs to be the cannon fodder for wars to keep oil accessible and markets open. Someone needs to do the grunge work to keep the economy going, children educated, streets in good repair.

Woe to you who add house to houseand join field to field
till no space is left
and you live alone in the land.
9The Lord Almighty has declared in my hearing:
“Surely the great houses will become desolate,
the fine mansions left without occupants.
10A ten-acrea vineyard will produce only a bathb of wine,
a homerc of seed only an ephahd of grain.” Isaiah 5

Over the course of my life I've moved among and called friend both the well-heeled and down trodden.

And based on my experience, all go with the non-rich any day. I'll stay with the people who are more resourceful, more caring, will always share, and don't have the delusion that they did it "all myself".

That doesn't mean we just accept the reality of sin, throw our hands up in the air and say, "Let's just go with the flow."

We aren't going to change the world, but maybe we can, by the grace of God, change our communities, reach out to the the lowly, show love to the unloved, bring peace to the violent and dark corners of where we live.

Just because the world is violent doesn't mean we have to be.

Just because the world is greedy doesn't mean we have to be.

Just because the world is selfish doesn't mean we have to be.

Just because the world believes in might makes right doesn't mean we have to.

Just because the world supports war doesn't mean we have to.

Just because the world hates people who are different doesn't mean we have to.

Or do we only have to have a form of religion while denying its power?

Christianity hijacked by either the Right or the Left is ultimately robbed of what makes it what it is, it is watered down into a worthless mush without the Christ who makes it worth living. It's either Jesus or nothing.

-CryptoLutheran
:amen:

And please, those who are heavy into politics...watch putting politics before your Father in heaven. This is easy to get carried away, and before you know it, you're more engulfed in worldly issues and arguments than in living for Him. I know from past experience. Just some friendly words of caution.

The lyrics to that song start, "Kum ba ya, My Lord ...".

It means Come by here, My Lord (in Gullah).

Is there something wrong with asking Christ to be with us

Those who are homeless and such are those that are that way by choice. Those who chose not to work are be productive but think others should support them.

Those who are truly poor are not mentioned by name because they were not included.

The Bible does say that if a man does not work he should not eat. It also says that we should give to the poor.

There is a large difference between those who are truly down but yet are doing all they know to do and those who are "homeless" and others who take advantage of others giving in order that they do not have to work.
Wow. :o I hope you never fall into bad times, and if you do, I hope you don't bump into someone who has a mindset like yours.

Just remember, if you have the mindset that all the poor people you see on the streets or wherever are just druggy bums, you'll never have compassion nor see Christ in them, and you will never learn to help them. This is what the conservative republican mantra has taught over the past many decades, and adopted from the big pro, free range capitalist mentally unstable Ayn Rand. I know this because for my whole life until about 3 years ago, I bought all of what was fed to me by these political groups' beliefs. It's not for us to be skeptical of every person homeless, but to see Christ in them and give to them in love and charity in whatever way we can.

On that note, please do not give money to the homeless, living on the street, so they can go buy food. They will usually buy liquor instead, and literally live on that. It is rich in calories, but a person can drink themselves to a slow, miserable death.

If they ask for money for food, and you feel inclined to give, take them and buy them food. Please.

Yes, we do what we can, Ray.

Oh, and by the way, the Native Americans were here first--the European settlers were the illegal immigrants. So, in the Christian country (which will be the liberal one according to the options given in the OP), you will have to press 2 to speak English. Option #1 will be to speak in the local Native American language of the area where a person is calling.

I'll be honest with you that it really irks me when people try and say the Europeans were illegal immigrants. First, the Natives had no concept of a "country" or land ownership. So it's ridiculous to think that they would have a concept of "immigration" at all, much less illegal immigration. Second, It's not our fault that the Natives traded a lot of their land for what was to us trinkets. Third, we took a fair bit of the land by way of war, which makes it rightfully ours. Now if you don't agree with three feel free to lobby to give Mexico back all the land we took from them in the Mexican-American war.
