Romans 10:14-15 - "Now how can they call on one in whom they have never believed? How can they believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how can they hear unless someone proclaims him? And who will go to tell them unless he is sent? As the scripture puts it: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!' " JBP

And how can we go and preach the Gospel unless we know the Gospel, and how can we know the Gospel unless we obey the command to study found in II Timothy. II Timothy 2:15: "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." KJV

Many Christians confuse the word study with read. They are far different. You wouldn't read a flight manual, then jump on a Jumbo Jet and begin to teach flying lessons.

And How can I preach the gospel, knowing it from the begining to the end if I dont have faith...That faith that makes me produce fruit? Just remembering that:
He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
I dont think it would be a matter of reading or study.
Reading the gospel is good. And then the Holy Spirit will use that seed to share with others. I could be an expert in gospel, but when God brings me tribulation... maybe I would turn into the seed fallen over stones...
It´s better to read the gospel as a human being than study the gospel as a scientist.

I like the way you compare this with flying a jet Gerry. How true that is! We must all learn to walk before we learn to talk. And the best way to do that is to study Gods Word.

Hugoguttman, as far as having faith, it is also needed, and faith comes from hearing. We must pray for our ears to be open so we can hear what Gods Word has to say. But we must study it in order to hear what it has to say.

Amen Gerry. I bet you though that a ton of people don't know that so that's our job to get our butts moving and talking about God to those who are young or reading but not processing. :)

Sharky, you just cannot imagine how much I love you. You make the complicated so simple. Praise God for you! Can't imagine this place without you in it!

Actually, I don't think it is a matter of studying the Gospel as a scientist, unless the scientist happenss to be a born again Christian. God specifically told us, as Christians (not just human beings or scientists) to study, to show ourselves approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. So it is clear, we cannot do that without study.

And remember, Jesus was clear about why we were saved. We are not saved to fill a quota, or because God like the way we smile or laugh. He has a specific reason and we are to be "workmen". According to John 15:16 He chose us and set us apart to go and bear fruit and reproduce ourselves.

Dude Amen!!!!

I appreciate the Amen! There is great power when Christians come together in unity. When the original disciples were in one place and in one accord, just look at what God did!

Can you imagine what He could do, even in these forums if the Christians here put aside their petty differences and personal jealousies and self righteous judgements of others, and came together for the single purpose of bringing Glory and Honor to our Saviour!? WOW!

Well put Gerry, again you find the right words to express yourself!

Praise Jesus! The Holy Spirit always goes before and prepares hearts to receive the words He gives another to share! So when people are in any way touched, I can take no credit for it. But your kind words are greatly appreciated.

Yes!!! I agree.
I just wanted to point that, I know a lot of people who study the Holy Scripture and then... I can see it is for bad than for better, because... I can remember every written word in the Bible and take them to judge people. I have seen a lot of cases like this. Sorry, I think I missunderstood the real meaning of the thread. Amen!!!

YES! If you are speaking of Romans 10:14,15 it is especially interesting whewn you see the connection to John 15:16 and realize that YOU have been sent.

John 15:16: "It is not that you have chosen me; but it is I who have chosen you. I have appointed you to go and bear fruit that will be lasting; so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he will give it to you." JBP

"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." KJV

Jesus is speaking here to His Disciples, ALL His Disciples, which we are if we are born again!
