I do pray for forgiveness of future sins. I not only ask for forgiveness of my sins, but also lots of times will ask for forgiveness of my future sins too. Proverbs 1:7 says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. So we really cann't fear the Lord, and ask forgiveness enough.

I really don't know how you made that leap of logic, equating the source to wisdom with future forgiveness.

Would you mind expanding on that with a little detail?

A person with no fear of God has no wisdom at all. They feel they can get away with anything without any eternal consquences. They can blaspheme God, commit crimes, get drunk, and do whatever else without a care in the world.

The more a person fears God the more they are convicted by the Holy Spirit of sin, and the more they fear doing stuff that displeases God. The more they fear God the more they will ask for God's grace, and forgiveness, and even forgiveness of future sins knowing that as humans we will fail.

How can God forgive you for sins in the future if God doesn't know the future?

Because God is omnicscient, and can choose to know any part of the future that he pleases. In fact he can control any part of the future that he wants to suit his plans.

Why plan on sinning sins that you are already asking for forgiveness for?

I am not planning on sinning, but I know I am a imperfect human, and fail all the time. We are imperfect humans, and we will fail. To think you will live a perfect life, and never sin again is foolishness, and arrogance.

I understand the conviction of sins, but I still don't get it. Where in the scripture does it talk about us seeking forgiveness for future sins, or even needing to? Or is this something that you are assuming?

I used to pray all the time for God to forgive both my past, present and future sins, untill I realised that He has already done so. Knowing this I saw it as me not truely believing that He has already done so, so I stopped doing it. In fact I hardly ever ask God to forgive my sins anymore as I now tell God that I'm sorry for those sins, not the past sins He no longer remembers, not the future sins He knows will happen, but just the present sins that is keeping me at a distance from him.

I would think praying for help in not sinning would be more appropriate, not giving in to sins you expect to do.
I don't even do that and for me that would not be more appropriate, or rather, the best thing to ask for. God wont move our strings for us as if we're puppets. I see asking for such a thing as putting the responsibility of me never sinning on Gods shoulders. Next time I sin I would be wondering why God let me sin after I had asked him to help me to not sin. So I have to ask, what kind of "help" are people expecting from God in this?

Strength and self-control to withstand temptation.

His wisdom to make good decisions in the first place.

There are all kinds of things we could ask God to "help" us with in this area.

I ask for those things sometimes when the need arises but I don't make general petitions of 'God, please help me not to sin'. I didn't say it was wrong to, just that I don't. I believe I need to ask specifically and gain understanding for what exactly I am petitioning about.

why all the talk about sin? The book say's a mind set on peace and love is the mind God has given you. Who teaching you to think about sin? I like what Paul said I wish they would cut it off.

My life was changed when I quit worrying about sin and worrying about whether I was doing right or wrong. I was still in bondage to sin without even realizing it. Sure I try not to sin but I don't focus and stress over it. Because God made Jesus sin so we could be the righteous of God in Christ. We are in Christ, so what does God see? It's sure not our filthy rags He sees

I've decided not to be sin conscience anymore. We are new creatures in Christ. The old is passed away.

 And being "sin conscious" about our own sins, has a tendency to make us "sin conscious" about everyone else's too.

 Extactly, very well said enoch son!

To have my mind set on peace and love is what we all should be praying about more than making petitions of help from God in not sinning. I no longer want to be so wrapped in the fear of sinning, or the striving to avoid temptations, that I have to ask God day after day to help me not to sin anymore. If my mind is stayed on Christ, love, peace, what ever is pure and lovely, why should I even think of sin? Why strive? Especially for something that God has already given me?

Here, for those who are worried about their future sins, do this...

Galatians 5:16-18, So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. they are in conflict with each opther, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

What I need to be praying all of the time is for that blind trust in God to stay living in the Spirit, not strength from temptation or help in not sinning. He has already given me help, it's inside of me. I see it as a waste of time to ask for something I know I already have.

My problem is not always living in the Spirit so what I pray for is blind trust in him so that living in the Spirit becomes automatic to me whether I'm thinking of it or not. Maybe with that blind trust in God I wont be trying to live life my way and always fouling it up?

it's a great thing to see the creation out of the eyes of it and not the old one that christ did away with.

I agree I have found only two naturer in the book romans 8;1-2 each nature does what it does if one want to see the nature work just look and see it. Setting your mind on it will make it do what it does. trying to fight it just pours fuel on the firer and turns it into a work. Letting the spirit of life work is as normal as apple pie.
