It does not matter. That was 14 years ago and is no longer at all part of who I am. I am an Orthodox Christian.

But was you attempting to become a priest?

I remember lots of protestant saminas when I was a bit younger but those are obviously a completely different matter.

How did you become Orthodox?

I'm in London and I've never seen an orthodox church.

Hey, check out my snazzy new faith icon! :) My mother and I were annointed on Holy Saturday.

I want to thank all you TAW regulars for all the help and information I've found here over the last two years. When I joined here, Orthodoxy was almost entirely foreign to me. I still have everything to learn, but, this forum has been a great aid to understanding.

(With special thanks to my infinitely wise friend Thekla.)

Christ is risen!

Congratulations! Many years!

I'm in London and I've never seen an orthodox church.

Welcome to TAW!

Definitely "Come and See"!

I would recommend contacting the priest before you come, as he can tell you how much of the service is in English, what the service times are, and also he will expect you. Also, definitely go to Coffee hour after Liturgy, as this is when all the socializing happens. :)

Please don't be offended if people don't talk to you during Liturgy. They are not being rude, it's just that social hour is reserved for after Church. :)

Just as an FYI, a lot of Orthodox churches in Europe do not do the same type of 'coffee hour' as we do in the US. It might be every now and then or people just go out together at the end of the service for coffee or such. Some churches don't even have a space for it. Then there are some that have coffee hour every week like we do.
So you might have to be a bit more persistent to meet people but the priest will definitely be a great starting contact.

There is a St. George Orthodox Information Service in London that you can look up on the web. They should be able to help you out.

This sounds like an exciting adventure, I'll definately go and definately call first.

That's okay, in my Catholic church there is absolutly no socialising what so ever! So coffee hour will be nice. :hrelax:

Weeks ago I went to my first Divine Liturgy at a Greek Orthodox parish. It was not in English, but I still found it incredibly beautiful and profound. There were missals available with English translations, so I read one of those. :)
