Well I thought about this myself. But there are certain rules that apply when it comes to his God power. For example everyone has the right to life, even Satan. He could destroy Satan but that would be against the 'inalienable rights' thing. Further more, we are his Children. However hes also the supreme being, the creater, he figured out Ethics and decided he was going to be a good God. Cant you say that God is good? But anyways we are his children, we humans arent exactly brilliant, we fall short when it comes to intelligence alot. Making us in comparison to God like 3-5 yos. So if you want a good child who will prosper, you teach him right, and wrong. To be full of vain glory has no purpose in Heaven. You just want it. But its noble to want Glory for the reasons of exposing, or bettering people in one or another. Therefore we give should give the Glory to God, who is above us, but as Jesus pointing out, is servant to all. To do otherwise would creates arrogance, pride, vain glory, etc.
So like a father teaches his Child, so God is preparing us for the World to come.

i was at fellowship yesterday and my friend asked this question:

"Why is God so glory hungry? why is everything always about His glory and why does He always want Himself to be glorified?"

we had a tough time answering it . . .

GOD didn't leave you alone without HIS answer to your questions:

" 2 Timothy
Chapter 2:

22 So turn from youthful desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord with purity of heart. 23 Avoid foolish and ignorant debates, for you know that they breed quarrels. 24 A slave of the Lord should not quarrel, but should be gentle with everyone, able to teach, tolerant, 25 correcting opponents with kindness. It may be that God will grant them repentance that leads to knowledge of the truth, 26 and that they may return to their senses out of the devil's snare, where they are entrapped by him, for his will.

"This way it will leave more time to concentrate on becoming ANOINTED ( BORN AGAIN-SAVED ).For anything else is VANITY.

Just to add: 2 Corinthians 4:7

God is after His own glory because ALL glory belongs to Him! For example, if you just learned how to play the piano, you could thank your instructor, or even your own brain for letting you learn how to play. However, you should thank GOD first and foremost because He allowed you to live and play the piano in the first place. He gave you the necessary skills to play it as well, so the only thing you did was use the gift that GOD gave you.

I might have answered the question with a question, "Who are we to judge the Lord and why do we not have enough faith?" You see that question he gave you was not really a question as innocent as it may sound, it was a challenge. I would suggest that person read the bible more and pray and realize in some ways it would be like explaining algebra to an ant.

Right question, wrong subject.. Why are we so "glory hungry?" Why is everything about our glory and selfrighteousness? If God as in fact done all that we believe he has done, then why are we so combative to give him the glory he justly deserves?

If you live in a situation of debt to another man, and he has shown you mercy, and canceled that debt then shouldn't you show appreciation for this mercy? If we are able to do this with all of the minor debts we owe each other, then how much more do we owe God? Would we owe him enough to constantly show him glory?

If this is not screaming out to you in your hearts, then take another look at what's in there..

If you fill your heart with the wants and desires of God, he will give you what your heart truly wants!

Maybe because it's just the right order of things?

Because God knows if we don't put Him in the Number One position, we'll put something else there, and our lives will be in total ruination?

I do have this question as well. Here are some of my thoughts on this matter:

I think that maybe it's good for our soul. When are we the happiest? When we are in the state of worshipping God and when our heart is overflowing with thankfulness... That makes us feel good. And maybe that puts our souls in the right position before God. He is a Supreme King of Kings, after all. We have to come humbly to him. God said: If I am God, where is the respect due to me? If you were God, wouldn't you say it too? When glory goes to us, we become arrogant and that is not the right standing before God. When we give all glory to God, our heart is humble. (Humble yourselves before God, and he will lift you up)

Did you notice, by the way, that there are numerous places in the Bible that say that we always have to be thankful. If we ask God for something, we have to be doing it in a thankful state. So God REALLY wants us to be thankful. I think it must be related to the state of being of the soul as well. Don't you love a thankful person? And how do you feel about a complainer? Or maybe it's a spiritual secret of getting things from God (or maybe both). One guy said one time: I was in trouble, then I started to thank and glorify God (despite my circumstances) and immediately, I got the help from God...

this question kind of shocked me in a way. what i wanted to say at first is 'let your friend create so much as a leaf out of nothing and he will get glory from me for that' but it sounded sarcastic and i don't mean to. it disheartens me that we deny honor to God who created the entire vast universe, yet made himself small enough to give us each a plan for our teeny little life so that we won't have to spend eternity burning in hell.
i was thinking of what was said in revelation 4

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

we as human beings crave glory for each of our little accomplishments, but i don't see glorifying God as anywhere near the same thing. i hope this didn't sound mean.

no your post doesn't sound mean. i thank you for your input and the time you took to bless this thread.

but,

when i read revelation 4:11 these questions come to mind rather quickly:

1 why did God make things for His pleasure?
2 is God selfish?
3 why is God a "jealous" God?
4 why do i seem to have this doubt and challenge God with all these questions? is it wrong?

i see that the king james translation say's in verse 11 that He created for His own pleasure but all the other translations i've looked at said something like: by His will etc.

confusing, i feel messed up

1. Isaiah 43:7 - States that we were created to glorify God.
2. No
3. Many reasons. Some people worship "false" gods when they should be worshiping the One and only God. Many times people will thank other people for all of the good in their life, instead of first giving praise and thanks/glory to God.
4. Personally, I think it's "ok" to question God because that shows that you have an interest in seeking Him and the wisdom that He gives us. In fact, it's biblical (e.g. book of Job and probably more).

hey justawitness. i am glad that you understood where i was coming from. have you read the book of job? that's an interesting one. do you believe that God does not sin? if God is completely righteous, then He whatever He asks of us is good. I think you are adding human nature into what you believe of God.

God is the owner of everyone and everything so only through him can you have anything. Glory is acknowledgement. We always have to acknowledge where our strength comes from because if we don't then may start to believe that we have power and that no different from Satan did. Satan believed it was all about him and wanted to claim God power for himself and see where he ended up. Our God has the final say! We are only because he is. Even the ones he has given gifts too they are only able to grow into them because of God. Without God you can not reach another level or higher level. So for that we must thank him and acknowledge him. And really God doesn't require alot of his- not as much as he could and still acts on our behalf. He said a mustard seed of faith. Most importantly when you can give him all the Glory then he will lift you up and take you to another level. We are not 100% right in all our ways only God is righteous. See Jesus knew the truth so he gave God all the Glory but, we who are brained washed by the world don't understand the whole picture. Stay Blessed!

All The Glory Belongs To God!

God is glory hungry because He loves us.

What is the best gift that God can give us? It is Himself! The best possible thing for us is to see God as He really is. We need to see that God is the most glorious thing that exists. To glorify God is really to hold Him in the highest esteem. If we glorify other things above God, then we look for fulfillment from things that have no power to fulfill. God alone can give us fulfillment, and so God longs for us to see Him as glorious. He wants us to see that He alone can give us fulfillment. It is all out of love.

Also think about this: what do we do when we see something that is glorious? Think about what you do when you see a beautiful sunset, or a beautiful person, or when you hear a beautiful piece of music. What do you do? You praise it! It's not good enough just to see something beautiful, but because of how we are made we have to talk about it and revel in it! That is what praising God is all about! In order to praise God, we must see Him as truly beautiful. In truth, He is the most beautiful thing there is. God alone is good, and He is the giver of every good and perfect gift. All good things come from God, and there is nothing good apart from Him.

All praise and glory be to God the most high forever!

Not sure that any of the answers so far really strikes me. "Glory hunting" seems to have a bit of vanity to it. It is one of the problems I have with literal interpretations of the the bilbe. The use of things like this and terms such as "slave". Being a slave is not exactly appealing. I can be a follower of something but a slave indicates a person of no status except property of the owner to do with as they wish without regard for the said property. So this would this would mean (if I were to accept it literally) that I am a slave and my only function of value is to entertain gods need for self glory? I think that maybe something most people would not enjoy much.

It would be interesting to know if others feel the same.

Well, we *are* slaves in that He made us, the world, and everything in it... so you can take that viewpoint if you wish. However, when Jesus came to the world, he brought a radical viewpoint along with him, and that was that he was God's Son... and when we accept his sacrifice and become believers in Him, we also become God's children and are adopted into His family. So we are no longer slaves, but sons (and daughters).

Jesus also said in John 15:15: "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

God is not glory hungry ....he is merciful
he does alot of things blessed a lot of people who would not give him glory
If he was glory hungry he would only bless people who would give him glory

But yes Only God deserves the complete devotion and glory Above all

Remain Blessed

Katryna...now I can accept your position. I have always viewed it more of father to children relationship of God to man. Slaves makes to impersonel a relationship for anyone to really want to follow. God as a parent would only want what is good for a child and not seek to harm him/her. So I am much more accepting of that analogy.

Sekir...agreed God could not be a god of love if He blessed only those who gave him glory. That would make the relationship with God to much a this for that relationship and not one of a loving parent to child. So I can accept what you are saying also.
