Don't seek, my friend, we cannot say
what end's in store for you, for me:
don't trust in vague astrology.
Better to shoulder what will be,
whether you soon will die, or stay
to watch the shore exhaust the sea.
So drink some wine while your hours flee,
put small trust in posterity,
and prune your hopes — but sieze the day.

I wrote this poem when I was around 12 years old. I think it's fitting now....

I am here
But for how long
Do you think it will be,
Before the waves come to claim me?
Nobody knows but the sea...

I have to say that his self penned eulogy was a work of art. I don't know that I, when facing my own mortality, could come up with something that good. His wit and intelligence came through remarkably. This certainly is a loss to us all.

We were blessed to benefit from WinAce when he was with us here. And never before had I felt such sympathy for a person who I did not know face to face, nor such sadness when he passed away.

Same here. My respect for Erwin (the original webmaster) also went up a lot when he tried to get the other members of this board to chip in for Allan’s operation, although it still wasn’t enough.

When the anti-creationism project I’ve been working on for the past year and a half is finished, I’m intending for it to include one of WinAce’s essays. I’d like to do what I can to help his writing be immortalized.

I rarely post at the couple online communities I visit, and at the time of Allan/WinAce's passing, felt it might be unnatural or unappreciated for a stranger to say anything. I hope it isn't tacky for me to so belatedly say that I've come to regret feeling that way.

Allan was a remarkable young man and I still find inspiration from him to this day.
