Is it ture that the Baha'i Faith teaches there are aliens?

Whooah! King of Immortality! What a question. I've just been watching an old TV series called "First Wave" ...CadeFoster battles aliens. I like SciFi flicks especially some of the old retro ones..

But I'm afraid though other than watching a few flicks about it as entertainment we don't really have anything about aliens.

especially since one of our core principles is that

The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens.

~ Baha'u'llah, Gleanings from the Writings of Baha'u'llah, p. 250

that being the case there are no aliens amongst us...

Here's some quotes from the Baha'i Writings:

They must purify their sight, and look upon mankind as the leaves, blossoms and fruits of the tree of creation, and must always be thinking of doing good to someone, of love, consideration, affection and assistance to somebody. They must see no enemy and count no one as an ill wisher. They must consider every one on the earth as a friend; regard the stranger as an intimate, and the alien as a companion.

~Abdu'l-Baha, Baha'i World Faith -, p. 215

this next quote is even clearer:

For each of the creatures is a sign of God, and it was by the grace of the Lord and His power that each did step into the world; therefore they are not strangers, but in the family; not aliens, but friends, and to be treated as such.

~ Abdu'l-Baha, Selections from the Writings of Abdu'l-Baha, p. 24

I suppose if we were ever asked "Take us to your leader!" We would gladly comply!

Greetings!

As Art said, we Baha'is are into UNITY, not alienation!

And as to aliens from other planets, the Baha'i Writings say nothing either way about them, and we have enough to accomplish here on earth that such matters are truly the least of our concerns!

Best regards, :)

Maybe it would be a bit more clear to refer to these "aliens" as extra-terrestrials.
The quotes used here are not about extra-terrestrials but about outsiders, and that they should not be treated as outsiders but as one of your own.

"Earth is but one country." That could imply that there are more "countries", each with their inhabitants.

Here is the source for the quote:

The Great Being saith: Blessed and happy is he that ariseth to promote the best interests of the peoples and kindreds of the earth. In another passage He hath proclaimed: It is not for him to pride himself who loveth his own country, but rather for him who loveth the whole world. The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens

I also understood the meaning of aliens as perhaps in an extraterrestrial sense..so far we have yet to meet these "aliens" but I speculate that they may well have their own Prophets and Messengers and Divinely Inspired Religions... time will tell!

I agree, we have enough problems already, with various religions and ideologies dividing man. Best is that we just wait and see, and hopefully their possible Prophets and Messengers wont bring us more problems.

:doh:Sorry:blush: I remember reading an artical some ware that said somthing about the Bahai faith said somthing about there being other planets with aliens on it but I guess it was hoax becasue I cant find it now.

Actually that wasn't a hoax.. but the term "aliens" wasn't used. we don't see life on other worlds as actually "alien" to us.. but Baha'u'llah did reveal that there was life on other worlds long before SETI.

Here's what I have found:

Through His potency the Trees of Divine Revelation have yielded their fruits, every one of which hath been sent down in the form of a Prophet, bearing a Message to God's creatures in each of the worlds whose number God, alone, in His all-encompassing knowledge, can reckon. (ADJ Page 80)

This limitless universe is like the human body, all the members of which are connected and linked with one another with the greatest strength. How much the organs, the members and the parts of the body of man are intermingled and connected for mutual aid and help, and how much they influence one another! In the same way, the parts of this infinite universe have their members and elements connected with one another, and influence one another spiritually and materially. (SAQ 245-246)

"Regarding the passage on p. 163 of the 'Gleanings'; the creatures which Baha'u'llah states to be found in every planet cannot be considered to be necessarily similar or different from human beings on this earth. Baha'u'llah does not specifically state whether such creatures are like or unlike us. He simply refers to the fact that there are creatures in every planet. It remains for science to discover one day the exact nature of these creatures." (From a letter written on behalf of Shoghi Effendi to an individual believer, February 9, 1937) (Lights of Guidance 478.)

It's not a hoax.

Here's the passage you wre thinking of:

“The learned men, that have fixed at several thousand years the life of this earth, have failed, throughout the long period of their observation, to consider either the number or the age of the other planets.

“Consider, moreover, the manifold divergencies that have resulted from the theories propounded by these men.

“Know thou that every fixed star hath its own planets, and every planet its own creatures, whose number no man can compute.”

(Gleanings, page 163)

But please note that "creatures" doesn't necessarily imply intelligence--let alone humanity!

After all, technically even minerals are created and therefore "creatures."

Best regards, :)
