Theoretically, if I throw a lit match into a swimming pool, I should go into orbit.

Why don't I?

Could it be because Colossians is true?

which misunderstanding of the laws of physics led you to that conclusion? even if the swimming pool was filled with gasoline, it would snuff it before igniting. even if it ignited you would be burned not thrown. there is no stretching of this example that would create a concussive blast strong enough to send you into orbit. either rephrase or clarify.

No, it's because [and yet another self edit to prevent banning]

I know a bit about Big Bang Theory (not a ton, I spent my time on particle physics, not cosmology, but there is some overlap), and I have no freaking idea what you are talking about. Either you are a complete loon, or you are making such an obscure reference to something that you most likely don't understand to try to make a point that will most likely not make any sense to a rational person. I think it is a coin-flip between the two and there is a third possibility that both are correct.

Okay, since everyone's struggling to understand, let me rephrase it in a more poignant manner:

Why is it that Hydrogen and Oxygen ignite when separate, but don't ignite when combined in the right amount --- in this case: H[sub]2[/sub]O ?

For the same reason that CO2 is made up of two elements needed for fire yet it does not burn.

They have already been oxidised, fire is oxidation, unless you strip the oxygen off from the first oxidation event you cannot have another.

Why is it that we cannot survive on a diet of your posts, but we do survive by eating the same things you do?

So you are asking why hydrogen and oxygen combine and why they don't combine when they are already combined?

You are basically asking why you need more gas for your car instead of just burning the exhaust.

No, because the laws of physics prevent it.

Could we someone on here who knows what I'm talking about to answer this, please?
Could we find someone who understands English grammar?

And now we see you are asking the age old chemistry question that brilliant scientists who cannot create life in a test tube cannot answer... Why doesn't water burn? Therefore, God.

Someone please help poor AVET out here... I am stumped

What theory is that?

Perhaps it is because Colossians is not true? I don’t see a causal link. Please point it out.

Why is it that Hydrogen and Oxygen ignite when separate, but don't ignite when combined in the right amount --- in this case: H[sub]2[/sub]O ?
When hydrogen combines with oxygen it releases energy. The energy released by a burning match is not enough to even boil the pool, much less disassociate the hydrogen from the oxygen. Even if you separated the hydrogen and oxygen by electrolysis it would take more energy that was released by the original bonding, and more energy than you would obtain by re-igniting the hydrogen-oxygen mixture. If anyone really wants I can supply the numbers.

How can anyone but a moron (which AV1611VET certainly is not) get to be 54 years old and not understand that even “theoretically” water doesn’t burn? I have to wonder where he went to school, or even if he went to school.

Perhaps he has damaged his mind by believing contradictory and impossible nonsense. It would seem the gears in his works have been stripped of most of their teeth. He isn't even right twice a day.
