I know folks will tell me to take my dog to the vet...probably.
Not only don't i have time, but i also dont have a lot of money.

So, before i endeavor that route, i am hoping someone has a remedy for his problem or knows what the problem is.

Apparently he is losing patches of hair [possibly ripping it out?] i am not home so i havent seen what he is doing.

He is getting bald patches and they are yellowish.
I havent a clue what this would be.

Anyone?:crossrc:

Could be two things: Mange or hot spots. It's probably mange, considering this is April and hot spots tend to appear in July, August and Sept.

Go to Petsmart or Petco (or whatever local pet shop you may have) and get some medicated shampoo for mange. Mange is caused by mites and you'll need to kill them. If your dog has wounds, etc. from scratching or whatever, you have to watch for infection. If an infection occurs, you'll have to go to the vet for anti-biotics.

Mange is caught from other animals with it. So if you were on a walk with your dog and walked by someone's yard who's pet has mange, that's one way. Or if your dog is in your yard and a stray comes to the fence, that's another way.

Oh and I forgot, it could be ringworms. But that usually is a fall/winter problem. Easily treatable with topical ointments. Good luck.

Allergies?

I have had to switch to an all fish and sea vegetable dog food without grains of any kiind, and he is improving tremendously.

Do as much research as you can online to see if you can determine what it is if money is an issue - if you see a vet, and I think you should, you will be better informed to and can ask about possible alternatives you may find to the treatment that is recommended.

You need to take him to the vet. There are any number of reasons to psychological to physical. Tests will have to be run.

Prayers for doggie. :crossrc:

I was hoping i didnt need a vet visit. :(

I was thinking about looking this up online, but hoping maybe it was something minor.
O well, no harm in hoping.

Thanks everyone.
This worries me.
And incidently, i dont know if another dog was in our yard since we use petsafe invisible fence and he wears a collar to keep him in.

The cats seem fine, so i dont think they have it.

It happens when you have children & pets. But you know that going in. I had to spend more money than I had on Hunter a bit ago.

You might go to the Vet & see about a medicated shampoo to try first. Explain circumstances. Cost you around 20.00.

Otherwise, take the poor guy to the vet.

Just so you know, over the counter stuff is less effective or not effective at all.

Better to get supplies at the vet.

My BIL's dog had a skin condition that eventually killed her. It can be serious.:crossrc:

I'm sorry. WA! I know these things are upsetting. I hate it when my baby has a health problem. Unlike people, you can't ask her how she feels and what's wrong, etc.

I'm hoping AMDG (Jean) sees this because she's bred and raised lots of dogs.

Well, i am contemplating a way to tell my hubby that he will probably need vet care.
He pretty much leaves the dog and his care up to me.
The dog thinks i am his master...altho he is for the kids.
[Ya know how it goes when you do everything for the dog, and raise them since 6 weeks old.]

So this is heavy on my mind...and i have been worried about him while i am at work.

Take the him to the vet & inquire about payment plans.

Avoid the guilt if it is something horrid.
