Now that that spooky time of the year is upon us again, do you have a list of favorite "scary" songs? Here are a few to think about...
The Byrds "Eight Miles High". About the band's first overseas plane trip to the unfamiliar region of England.
Led Zeppelin "Stairway to Heaven". There's always time to change the road you are on in life. Or is there?
Blue Oyster Cult "(Don't Fear) The Reaper". Song about teenage love and suicide.
Styx "Madame Blue." Song about America.
Aerosmith "Dream On". Song about aging and death.
Led Zeppelin "Ten Years Gone". Song about loss and the passing of time.
The Eagles "Hotel California". Song about occultism in California.
Jefferson Starship "Stranger". This may not be as well known. It's about aging rock stars who were gods of music in the decadent town of San Francisco, reflecting upon unknown lovers from their past. At least that's how I interpret it.
Here are two that precede the rock and roll era, but which I thought warranted mention here...
Billie Holiday "Strange Fruit". Swing-era song about tree lynchings in the south.
Stanley Brothers "Rank Strangers". Bluegrass song about how you can't go home again.
