Is inheriting the kingdom of God the same thing as salvation?

Yes and no.
To receive salvation would be to take part in the process of kingdom invasion. We do experience part of the kingdom here on earth. We do enjoy some of the kingdom Benefit's here. Still other benefits we will not see untill heaven. We only receive a taste of this.
A good book on this subject is "The Gospel of the Kingdom" by George Eldon Ladd.

I am going to assume that my answer is confusing. This might be a better way of explaining it.
When a guy and a girl get engaged they know they are each others. They know that no other person is going to be with the other one. Still they cannot take part in all the things of marriage yet. They are spoken for.
The kingdom of God is like this. When you get saved you are spoken for. Still we do not receive all the benefits of marriage untill Christ returns for us.

I'm in agreement with closer +...

Salvation is the Promise of Eternal life in the literal place called Heaven, and is a gift that all Believers will share in Him. We get Saved, we inherit His gift of Heaven.

Philippians 3:20-

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;"

So my answer would be, sure, why not. Believers inherit the gift of Salvation=Believers are Saved and receive the gift of His inheritance.

Believers are walking on earth as citizens in Heaven with eternal life: Saved.

"Not of the world..." John 15:19
"My Kingdom is not of this World..." John 18:36

Hope that may have been of assistance.

Inherit is a futue tense. Salvation is a present tense. Today is the day and now is the time for salvation. The time that we see ticking away on a clock is given to us to decide if we want to live for God as a part of His Kingdom. Every moment we are given we must use to honor and glorify God.

Now the Kingdom of God is inside of us. "Eden" is on the inside of us, and the day will come when we will return to "Eden".

Rev. 11:15
Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven, saying, "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!"

I think about it this way:

A kingdom is a place, but a place without people is just a piece of property.  In a kingdom there is a king who rules.  Does he rule over the land or the people?  Then there's the fact that heaven is to be destroyed, and God setting up a 'capitol' on a new earth.  We cannot inherit something that is to be distroyed.  Jesus sayed that the kingdom is at hand and even now is.  At the time heaven was empty but peradice was full.  So the conclusion is that Jesus was not talking about a pysical place, but a spiritual place.  Remember that we are seated with Christ in the heavenlies.  The kingdom of God is the Church, moving and opperating in the spiritual ream.  God is a spirit, and them that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.  It is also any ground that is takin back for Christ in that earthly realm.  It also includes Heaven since it exist in the spirit realm.

Anything that is under Gods direct authority is apart of the kingdom of God (everything is under God's indirect authority).  Or, everything that is a part of Christ's priesthood is in the kingdom of God (not a reference to any denominational priesthood, i.e. catholic priest, but rather a reference incusive of all denominations that name the name of Christ).
