The dance started soon afterwards, the three of them went out to dance with Llian and Kala's friends. Oridea had never had such a good dance, not since the last time she went away from home. After a couple of dances her face was flushed and she excused herself to get a drink.

Alex and Fern were heading towards the door, leaving the garden. They hurried past two people. One was a woman reading a letter and the other was a man watching her intently. They passed through the dance hall where music and dancing was still going strong. Fern wanted to stop and at least get a drink but Alex kept pulling her on. Alex muttered to Fern, "We've got to get out of here with attracting as little attention to ourselves as possible."

Fern kept quiet until they were back outside on the street. Alex was still walking quickly and Fern tried to keep up. Fern frowned and struggled with her skirts, "You know, this dress does not make for easy running. What exactly is wrong, Alex?"

Alex slowed his pace glancing up and down the street whispering, "Not here. I'll tell you once we get inside somewhere. Too many ears..."

Fern felt her heart lurch but she could tell by Alex's face that he was serious. Suddenly, they heard footsteps. They were running footsteps. Fern turned and saw the woman they had passed earlier running towards them, crying. She rushed past them but didn't see Fern and ran into her. They tumbled to the ground and the woman got up quickly and started running again, crying harder if that was possible. Alex was help Fern up when a man approached them. He too was running but he slowed when he saw them and then came to a stop nearby looking at them. He looked off down the street and then down at Fern, "I'm sorry, miss, but Cathy isn't herself right now."

Alex frowned but Fern was curious, "Why is that? Is it something you've done?"

The man grimaced, "Not really, but partly. You see..." he paused looking down at them more closely but deciding they were young and weren't about to do harm  continued. "You see, her parents have just been found murdered and I, without knowing, accused her of something."

He seemed embarrassed and didn't elaborate on much. Fern sighed sadly, "Oh, how horrible. Do you know where she went?"

"She went home, that much I know."

Alex's frown deepened, "Who are you?"

The man looked at Alex a smile tugging at his lips, "Apparently, you have also heard disturbing rumors. My name is Ryan. And yours are?"

Fern smiled up at him, "Nice to meet you, Ryan. My name's Fern and this is Alex."

Ryan held out his hand and Fern took it with a slight curtsy and Alex gave Ryan a hesitant shake of the hand.

grrr... that's all i can think of.

uh, my mind's blocked.
----
It was soon into the night, but the guests kept the movement on, and never was the dance floor completely emptied.
----

It didn't take long to find their supplies. The horses snorted gently as they neared. Carwain untied them and each person took a rein.
"I'll go with you for awhile," he said, keeping his voice low.

Cathy got to her door, hot tears running down her face. She opened the door, and slowly walked upstairs. She got to her room, and jumped on her bed. She cried softly into her pillow.
"Cathy?" Lusha said, walking into her room. Cathy sat up.
"Cathy, what's wrong?" Lusha said sitting on her bed.
"Lusha," Cathy said, looking her sister in the eye. Cathy pulled her close, and whispered, "I got a letter from Jonathan. It's just you and me now, Lusha." Lusha pulled away slowly.
"What is that suposed to mean?"
"Jonathan found, well, mom and dad are," Cathy took a deep breath.
"They're gone Lusha."
"Dead?" Lusha asked. Cathy nodded. Lusha gasped. Cathy looked at her sister.
"Lusha, listen to me. Mom and dad were murdured. No one knows why, or who did it. Now listen carefully: the same person, or persons, might come here. So-"
"You want me to think of a different name to protect myself with?" Lusha asked.
Cathy nodded.

Ryan sighed. "I didn't want to yell at her, it just came out. Now, I don't even know if she'll accept my apology."

"Lusha, sat here. I need to find Ryan, and ask him something. Whatever you do, do not open the door for anybody. I'll take an extra key, but even if it's someone you know, please do not open the door."
Lusha nodded, her eyes wide with fear and saddness.
Cathy ran downstairs. She grabbed her coat, went out the door, and locked it. She looked around, and saw no sign of Ryan. She walked around town, and spotted him talking to a guy and a girl.

Ryan looked down the street and saw Cathy.
"Excuse me." he said. Ryan walked up to Cathy.
"Cathy, I am terribly sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you. I was just under stress." Ryan said.
"It's okay. I can see why you were upset. Ryan, would you do me a favor, and watch our house for a few weeks? I don't want Lusha to feel unsafe, but I don't want her surrounded, you know?"
"Yeah. I'll watch your house tonight from the church tower. Should I throw a rock in your window if I see something?"
"Do whatever you think necessary."
"I think it's necessary for me to walk you home." Ryan said, offering her his arm. Cathy then noticed Alex and Fern.
"Oh, I'm sorry for running into you earlier." Cathy said, looing at Fern. Fern smiled, and said, "It's alright." Cathy nodded her thanks, took Ryans arm and he walked her home.

When they got there, Cathy asked, "So, what were you going to ask me?"
Ryan looked at her, his bright turquoise eyes gleaming.
"Well," he said running his hand through his dark-blonde hair. "It's more of a statement." Cathy cocked her head, waiting for Ryan to finish. Ryan smiled, leaned in close to her face, and whispered, "I love you Cathy."
With that, he gently brushed his lips against hers, in a qyuick, but meanigful kiss. He pulled back quickly, slightly embarassed. Cathy smiled, and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"I love you too." she whispered before, walking into the house.

Ryan smiled, and walked across the street, to the church. There, he climbed into the church tower, and stayed there the whole night.

Cathy sighed, smiled and ran upstairs. Though her heart was still filled with sadness over the death of her parents, a new joy had sparked in her heart. She knew Ryan would always be there for her. She walked into Lusha's room. She was asleep. Cathy sat on Lusha's bed. She looks exsactly like mom. she thought. Lusha stirred, and sat up.
"Lusha, go back to sleep."
"I can't. I know I'm only a year younger than you Cathy, but I feel like a six year old. I have undecided feelings, that are keeping me awake."
"We all have undecided feelings sometimes. But, some of those feelings can be used to our advantage, and others can be tourture. The only thing we can do, is ask God to help us with those feelings, and not put them in the way of His work."
Lusha smiled.
"Cathy, even though mom and dad are gone, I'm glad to have you here with me." Lusha said. Cathy smiled, her bottom lip quivering.
"I'm glad to have you too." Cathy said, a tear rolling the length of her cheek. Lusha wrapped her arms around her older sister, and they gave each other a comforting hug.

I don't think I posted Ryan's BIO.

NAME: Ryan Hanker
AGE: 21
GENDER: Male
DESCRIPTION: Short, dark-blonde hair, bright turquoise eyes, light-skin, light-brown mustache(he looks like Westly in The Princess Bride)
PHYS. APP.: Loose black shirt, black pants, black boots
WEAPONS: Sword
AFFILIATION: Nothing really, he works where he's needed
WEALTH: Pretty wealthy
PERSONALITY: Loving, caring, friendly, cautious around some people

The next morning, while fixing breakfast, she and Ryan talked.
"I didn't see anyone last night. I didn't exsactly know what I was looking for, though."
"Someone walking around, suspiciously. Like you couldn't trust him. You follow?"
"Yeah. I got it."
"Keep an eye out for anyone suspicious."
"Like that Donavin character?" Ryan asked. Cathy looked at Ryan.
"Donavin can apear untrustworthy, but, when you get to know him, you understand why he is that way."
"And why is he that way?"
"Because it's his personality." Cathy said, going back to finishing breakfast.
"I hope his personality doesn't get someone killed."

Donavin walked into a grove of trees. He was met by one of his companions.
"So, was she there?" he asked.
"Yes, she's there. Her sister too. The only thing, is she's got some protection. I would have finished the job, if he hadn't been in the church tower."
"Just kill him."
"No, I'll wait. I'll get her trust first. Then, when I feel the time is right, I'll kill him, and leave the girls at your mercy."

um, what're we gonna do with the group that's escaping?
----
Under a full moon half hidden behind the clouds, the group stole away from the city. Carwain led them down the road towards the left where there was an obscure trail with an obscure entrance. They proceeded cautiously yet speedily, and their hearts were heavy. After what seems an hour had passed, Carwain halted his horse.

Ivan who was bringing up the rear, turned to peer into the gloom. The falcon dropped out of the inky sky, circling the group for awhile, it headed west. Then Ivan heard some noise.

"Go," hissed Carwain, "Follow the falcon, i'll set up a distraction."
Without further word, Jack threw Carwain a knowing look and spurred his horse on.
