Hey guys,
Well here's an update for you all that I've posted with before, and even for those of you I haven't. I am leaving June 14th (I'll be gone 3-6months) for Zambia where I'll be living on our base helping with construction, helping to train local leaders in ministry, running orientations for the short term teams that come in, and doing ministry/education training in Zanzibar, Tanzania. My boss hasn't told me yet but I know once I get there, I'll get to be in charge of cooking meals for everyone on base. We have a camp stove and then the open fire to cook over. I am totally at a loss of where to even begin thinking up meals to cook. Any ideas? I'd appreciate all the help i can get.
thanks and God Bless,
Laura

Well, it depends on what kind of rations you have to work with. Heck, I could tell you how to cook prime rib to perfection, but that isn't going to help you unless you're going to have the right inventory on hand.

Any idea what you'll get to work with? Even if all you have is flour and water, there are a few neat recipes that I could dig up for you from the books.

I'm a cook at a huge resturant and you'd be surprised how many of the finest dishes that come out of our kitchen were just the chef's messing around and coming up with new ideas. The first week will be really ackward, specially if you have never cooked for such a large group, but once you find out what works you will be able to combined whatever you want and it will come out eadible. :p

Anywho, if you have an idea of what kind of stock they will be giving you to cook with, just post it and I'll see what I can come up with.

Regards and God bless,
Kyle

my sugeestiong is get on line and see if you can get a cook book for cooking on a camp stove or a dutch oven....Sometimes they have th emost amaazing means but usually allow for limited ingreditents and cooking space!!!

Soup, stew is always good....see if you can get a local to help you out, then atleast you get some good traditional food to the area....worst outreach I was on, we ate like americans!!!! it is always much more adventurous to eat the local fare even if it is somethign I despise like fish, or rat, or something else not so apatizing....makes for better stories....

I mean who wants too say, while in Africa we ate spagettie....;)

Chicken and noodles:

two large cans (20 ounce) Swanson chunked chicken
Three large cans (22 ounce) chicken broth
two one pound bags of wide egg noodles
water

Put first three ingredients in a large pot, heat until it is boiling, then turn down to a simmer until the noodles are cooked. Add water to thin the broth if needed.

Serves 10 people or 8 very hungry people.

Please send me the address of your church and I will send you several boxes of Bibles to take with you. There are never enough Bibles in Zambia.

Hi my name is Rob, I was a missionary cook with YWAM a few years ago. Cooking in Guatemala. about how many will you be cookin for?? The local fare with your flare will go good.lrt me know how you get on .I may have some Ideas for you. Rob.
I'll probably be cooking from anywhere between 5-25 people. it'll vary as different expedition teams come and go.
A friend of mine served with YWAM for awhile. Maybe you know her- Teresa DeLeon?

Laura,

I have three big boxes on their way to you. Please email me photos of your trip when you get back. I put a disposable camera in one of the boxes so you can take some pictures of the people and the community for me. Thanks!!

Judith
