My dear friends in Christ,
I am trying to understand a certain situation and wonder if any of you could shed some light. I have a friend who is a devout Roman Catholic and she met a Coptic Orthodox guy. Having read a bit about the CO Church I see that it would be impossible for them to marry unless she convert to Coptic Orthodoxy which she has no intention of doing. So I am wondering why this CO guy continues to pursue her if he knows she will not convert. From what I have read, he would be ex-communicated if he married a non Coptic Orthodox. So would it be possible for the CO Church to make an exception in certain cases...that they could each remain faithful to their Religion and be married? Otherwise why would he continue to pursue her and give her hope? He loves his faith too and would never leave it either. It just doesn't make sense to me and I am concerned that he is leading my friend on and she will get hurt.
I would appreciate any thoughts that could be helpful and I hope this post is not offensive.
In Christ and the Theotokos,
Marie
