If you haven't seen this movie with LeeLee Sobieski as Joan of Arc - you MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

It's very, very, very good.

The first time I saw it, I watched it by myself - bawled my eyes out at the end (after crying throughout the movie) and then after it was over I got on my knees and prayed that I would have that kind of courage and conviction to stand up for my faith.

Anybody else see this one???

To Lily:

I watched it....missing the first half hour, and the whole family got interested in it! I like it much more than the relatively recent movie about Joan of Arc (the one that came out about two and a half years ago).

I remember reading (and LOVING) a book of Joan of Arc when I was a kid. At that time, I didn't realize just how REMARKABLE she was. When I read about her demanding to see Charles, and then telling him that God told her to help put him on his rightful throne, as a kid I thought she was just a strong woman, true to her faith, and she had some amazing adventures.

NOW.........I see her as being a relatively terrified CHILD who went against everything that society stood for, and she managed to pull the French people out of their fatal resignation and bring them together to fight the British.

This movie is great for the costumes, the story line, and the acting! I'm looking forward to Wednesday!

Peace be with you,

I watched it the last time it was on and loved it! I was glad that it was coming on again. I have a question though. What was the significance of Joan finding the sword? She goes into the church and among the weapons there, she picked up a sword and I got the feeling this was no ordinary sword. Anybody know?

Yeah, I think it was "The Messenger." It was disturbing. And it had some inaccuracies in it, from the Joan of Arc story I remember. At the end of it, when she was condemned as a witch and sentenced to die, I recall the examining priest saying that he found her in no sin, yet the government continued with her execution. That didn't happen in the movie. And her "visions" were of just one person who never identified himself, who kept berating her and taunting her. I recall her "visions" to be just "Voices" and they were always welcome and comforting to her.

Today, poor Joan would be locked away in a quiet state hospital somewhere, pumped full of powerful antipsychotics, and grilled in group therapy as to why she hated her mother and loved her father...

Peace be with you,

Hey OneSheep, yes, they showed all three videos - it was a marathon from 9:30 am to 11:00 pm - on the PBS channel. The last one was about her her Gilbert getting married and her trying to protect a baby by sneaking him out of the country (she ended up adopting him) and trying to find Gilbert during the war - it was alittle more serious than the first two. At the very end when she gets the little boy he is sitting on the very same bench that she sat on in the first movie while waiting to be picked up - I thought that "deja vu" scene was precious.

Perhaps if you didn't paint all the church leaders with such a broad brush.

Yes, our church is going through a time of great trial - a trial a handful of sinful men brought on an entire church. But make no mistake - the Holy Spirit is at work here and now, just like it was in Joan of Arcs time.

Truth will prevail, the guilty will be brought to justice and the church will purge herself of the cancer within and be a stronger church - all by God's will. Just like with past mistakes by leaders of our church - the Holy Spirit takes care, brings justice and that's how the Church has survived the "gates of hell" for 2000 years.

How many other churches could withstand all that our has gone through and still be left standing? Very, very few.

I thought Catholics searched for truth. Now I know you blind your eyes and hide from it. You really think that your Church is not responsible for breeding these "priests"? That's right use the old devil made us do it. :(

It is being taken out of the hands of your church. The children that were not protected by your Church will be protected by our laws. It really does not matter what your bishops decide tomorrow. We who are not blind have been forced to see.

Catchup,
You've been a member here for a long time and you knew FULL well that a post like that does not belong in this forum. The thread was discussing the "Joan of Arc" movie and "Anne of Green Gables"!
There are other forums that are dealing with the issues that you brought up. Post there or feel free to start a new thread in a more appropriate forum.
Thank you,
Annabel
