I have heard the beer one before - stout is what is meant to help I think.

Also for those who express, if you ever find that you are not getting quite so much milk it can be because of that - expressing doesn't get out as much as what a baby can, so it sends your body the message that you don't need as much milk, so it in turn makes less. However, if you continue pumping for a few minutes after your milk stops then it will send your body a message to make more. It can be a good way of building up your supply a little if you are having a problem. I used to pump heaps with my first, but with my second it just wasn't doing the trick for me....

I think the think I found most annoying was that when it was working so well for number 2, and he was so good at it, it was something as stupid as an operation that stopped it for me!

My lactation consultant used to advise that the hubby's can get involved as well, especially if it was to help with mastitis or something. I never had it fortunately, and think I would have found that a bit weird. I'm a bit like some of the other ladies, and can really only cope with one role at a time!

I just wanted to echo what I heard some early saying. I about KILLED (literally, I would have been quite happy to have shot her if I had had a gun) when we were at the mall, my son wass 11 months old, and my wife was feeding him a bottle in the food court. The lady sat down at the next table, and said in a voice loud enough for all those around to hear, "I just don't understand why some women are so dumb or so selfish that they can't breastfeed there children."

she didn't know my wife had gotten out of the hospital the day before, after being in for 2 weeks with bad pnuemonia. SHe had breastfed up through the first week in the hospital at which time the pnuemonia was getting worse, and they had to put her on some super duper antiobiotics that would have stunted our sons growth. my wife wound up running to the bathroom and crying for 30 minutes. I've never been so mad in my life.

I helped out with a couple feedings a day and sometimes at night (depending on how she was doing and work start times). I really enjoyed sitting with my daughter and feeding her. LOL only if she would sit that still now to eat :)

I can, of course, only speak for myself. But, beyond the obvious health benefits for my children, it was irrelevent to me. I accepted it as readily as I did to carry a diaper bag and have that "spitup" cologne about me, sometimes. I was their father and it was to their best interest, end of story.

LOL Spitup cologne... ah ya those were the days. Our daughter was a incredible druller. She would often leave a nice puddle on my shoulder. The best was when you looked at it and sort of shake your head, then look at her and she would be grinning.
