  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do Protestants Settle on a Denomination? (No Debating Catholics/Orthodox)

As a military brat who moved regularly, I have attended Independent Baptist, Nazarene, Assemblies of God, Southern Baptist, and non denom churches. I now work in a Grace Brethren Church. My grandfather was a Free Methodist preacher and my other grandpa was a lay elder in a River Brethren (and...

    Uncomfortable Around Female Colleagues? MeToo...

I think that there will always be a significant number of men who are uncomfortable mentoring women, except in special circumstances such as family. I know that there are differences between churches and the workplace, but I work in a church leading the youth group, and the group is largely...

Does punishment encourage concealment or reform?

It really depends on the person, as everyone has a unique personality and is in a unique situation. For example, I got a warning ticket the other day for illegal parking. I decided that I would reform where I parked to avoid a ticket next time. However, one of my best friends would likely have...

The decline of western civilization in 10 pictures

Culture naturally shifts, which is fine. Not to mention cherry picking negative examples, both positive and negative, doesn't result in a proved point.

Gay rights... The slippery slope that destroy's societies...

While I agree that homosexual actions are wrong, Christians can only hold non-Christians to so high of a standard. If you are lost, you will tend to act lost. I think that this slippery slope is fairly unlikely in American society. It seems as though the number of people actively speaking out...

    Obama

In America, there is unfortunately a high amount of partisanship. Republicans often hate Democrats, and Democrats often hate Republicans. Both of these two major political parties keep their power by painting the other as the enemy. There are also many political commentators and webpages on each...

Biblical, Enclosed Flat Earth and Firmament

The spherical earth has been accepted by science long before evolution. The main issue with the Tower of Babel was not the height that it was reaching. The Tower of Babel was likely not that tall, and was instead probably very similar to the pyramids found elsewhere in Mesopotamia. The point of...

    Low Biblical Literacy

Haha I always try to keep things lighthearted, and wanted to have a name that would give some people a chuckle. Laughter is good medicine, and life is boring if you can't laugh at yourself and the things around you. I think that there is great value to crossing denominational lines to pursue...

    Low Biblical Literacy

None of what I am teaching involves anything like that. Flat Earth comes from misunderstanding literary devices (from my understanding at least), Nephilimism is way far advanced, and the Creationism debate is not anywhere near my focus right. I'm more concerned that middle schoolers are...

    Low Biblical Literacy

I only recently started using the site, and it looks like I cannot PM you. However, I would be very appreciative of the resource. As to how to raise it with the head pastor, etc - do you have regular meetings, supervision, anything like that? That would give you a natural avenue to raise it as...

    Low Biblical Literacy

You gave some great ideas that I had not thought of. I like the idea of telling them what the Bible drill answers will be. Several of the students are still learning their way around the Bible (we often give hints to prod them in the right direction), but telling them the verses the week before...

    Low Biblical Literacy

I recently started working as a youth leader at a small church. Over the past couple weeks, I've noticed that most of the students (about 4 or 5 middle schoolers) had alarming low Bible literacy and knowledge. I have done things such as Bible drills and Bible Jeopardy as fun ways to slowly...

    Youth Group -- Phil. 1:21

That's what I ultimately decided on teaching. I taught about the importance of context and how all of Philippians even leads up to 4:13. I then talked about how God sustains Christians through their trials, including some personal examples. Thank you everyone for your help!

    Most Misunderstood Bible Verses?

What are some of the Bible verses that you believe are most commonly misunderstood? I know that Phil 4:13, Jer 29:11, and Matt 7:1 are often misapplied and misinterpreted, but what are some other common ones?

Prayer for Me and (Soon to Be) Fiance

Two related prayer requests My girlfriend and I are both Christians, and we actively serve together in our church and community. We know that we want to get married, and I plan to propose in two weeks, but we are struggling to figure out when to get married. I graduate from college in December...
