  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Ordained Women, coming soon?

Pogue, With all due respect, this isn't "Let's Make a Deal" (an old TV game show). But neither is it about disrespect to women or stripping them of their dignity or whatever. For all intents and purposes the role of the deaconess in the early church, along I think with that of Holy Widow...

    Laundry list for Protestants

Context is important Woody. When Paul says, "The Works of the Law" he is talking about ritual activities related to the Old Covenant. Usually, he is referring specifically to circumcision but sometimes to the whole sacrificial temple system. Read Romans and, indeed, the whole Pauline corpus...

Colorado high school withholds valedictorians's diploma after she mentions Jesus

Every story like this is just more evidence that things are getting weirder and weirder. A hundred years ago a commencement address without mention of Jesus would have been the exception.

Full Scale War between Isreal and Hamas has broken out in the Gaza Strip.

And I should have said "That is what some people think the UN is for." ;) Who has "responsibility" for the region? The US and the UK historically, but I think the days of Great White Fathering are over... It can't be fixed simply...

I'm Fully Persuaded to be a Catholic are You and please state WHY?

I am Catholic because the alternatives are either too tribal (Eastern Orthodoxy) or just don't make sense (Protestantism). Well, there's more to it than that, but it's a thumbnail... 1. I don't believe in Sola Fide or Sola Scriptura anymore 2. Certain types of Catholic spirituality have been...

Well, that is what the UN is for, but can we trust them to be just?

What Do You Think Of This?

Mega churches offer an "experience". Americans want, more than anything to be shown a good time. We want to be entertained (strains of the Nirvana song "Smells like Teen Spirit" roam through my head.). We don't want to work too hard digging for truth. We want cool rock music and a relevant...

What Do You Think Of This?

cl, It's interesting that the article you cited points out that just 40 years ago these same people voted consistently democrat. What has changed? Well, and this is just my opinion, sixties radicalism changed the party. The party of Truman is no longer. I am not saying welfare needs to be...

What Do You Think Of This?

I reread the article and I didn't see any indication that Johnson tells his congregation that they must vote GOP or they will go to hell. And this is what I mean by caricature. We have to be careful with this stuff. It's sufficient to disagree with another's opinion, we don't have to make up...
