  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Time to let go of a long-term friendship?

Heron, thanks for your sheer honesty in the matter. The legal issues surrounding her underage drinking and drug consumption also came to mind, and while I mentioned it to her, she would always come back with the idea that it was unlikely we'd be caught. As though it was an absurd point to even...

Time to let go of a long-term friendship?

Thanks guys. I talked to her today and told her that doing this made me feel bad. I told her I'd be willing to hang out with her as long as it didn't involve running her to get/consume drugs. She kept asking why and never gave me a straight answer. I suppose if she asks me to hang out on a...

Time to let go of a long-term friendship?

For so long I have put God's will aside and chased my own, seeking out momentary gratification and a shallow lifestyle, spending my days with people just because it was a means to pass time, though these people are hardly "friends". I have recently made the commitment to put aside this shallow...

    Sadducees, Pharisees, Scribes, Herodians.

Ah, thank you so much for the enlightening responses! :) When you mention that someone did/did not believe in the "resurrection of the dead", do you simply mean the concept of a man resurrecting upon his death? (Though this has only occurred with Jesus, in my belief.) Or is this a phrase used...

    Sadducees, Pharisees, Scribes, Herodians.

In the New Testament, these groups are prominent and consistent in their attempts to discredit Jesus. Now my only question, after constantly hearing of them, is: what is the difference between each group listed above? What distinctions can be made? Any information on historical background...

My untitled short story that carries a lot of meaning to me.

He hadn't known a purpose of leaving his apartment so abruptly, though this unknown energy that led him outdoors at such a forsaken hour was perhaps the only emotion he did feel. There was no reason, no motivation, no surge of knowledge, nor insight, that could possibly contour his mind as...

Coptic community needs prayers - church fire

Are you talking about Abouna Bishoy? (I am guessing you are.) Yeah, he used to belong to St. George, but has moved to another church (I cannot recall which) a couple years ago. :)

Coptic community needs prayers - church fire

There was a fire at the church I attend a couple years ago-- St. George in Bellflower, CA. With patience and drive, the church was remodeled and made even more spiritually cleansing to know of the effort put into remaking the church. I know God has plans. And just because the church may be...

Think of blacks and shoot, German soldier told.

Your mention of dehumanization as a way to get soldiers to kill doesn't sound any more humane than the racist commands the German soldiers received. And I don't think it's any better to use "arabs" and "terrorists" interchangeably. It's still racist to use a race as a target... whatever it may...

    Err..

I don't really have a motive behind sharing this poem, but the spread of poetry seems to be expressive for a lot of us. This doesn't have a title, but it documents my frustrations with the materialistic, consumerist-type of society I abide in, one that emphasizes war and destruction for...

    Do you ever...?

Not so much stories. They are more of just random tangents and dicussions with myself about philosophical, idealistic, and emotional topics. And I have many of those. =P

    Before Tomorrow Was Yesterday

I totally understand what you mean by the dark emotions. Somehow I (I don't want to generalize this to everybody) feel more of a connection to something hurtful or profound. It's indescribable. But I tend to be more aware of things when I am upset rather than when I am glee or happy. Looking...

    contest

Nice idea. I'd like to read what everyone has to say, though I am not really for writing contests anymore. It seems odd, to me, to judge between everyone's individual, personal experiences and proclaim one as a "winner". Maybe if it's judged simply for the manner in which it is written, but I...

Quote that just came to me --

I agree. That's so true. Sometimes you feel a connection to a particular environment, only to realize that the connection is due to a specific occurrence in that place, or someone it even may remind us of. The beach, for example. I love the scenery it provides me, but I feel a profound...

    Why do you write?

I write because I can, as any human can if they choose to. The gift of expression is oftentimes taken for granted, but upon the realization that I am free to write however and whatever I wish, I fell in love. Writing is a gift that we all share, but it doesn't seem many people truly pay...
