  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    New English translation?

I'm sorry. And I misspoke when I said there was no definite article on front of αἰτοῦντί. If I had looked at the text I pasted here I might have noticed there was a definite article, but that Bible hub page offers more than one Greek text, there appears to be some textual variation, and I was...

Matthew 5:19 (least in the kingdom of heaven?)

From the commentaries I've read on the...

    New English translation?

Hello all. I just found something I was thinking of when I posted the question on Luke 6:30. But I don't really understand it. Could someone please tell me what it means, and how it applies here (if it does)? [When 3956 (pás) modifies a word with the definite article it has...

    New English translation?

Thank you. Does anyone know if any of the early Greek speaking fathers (like John Chrysostom, perhaps) recorded his understanding of what Christ meant by παντὶ δὲ τῷ αἰτοῦντί σε δίδου, καὶ ἀπὸ τοῦ αἴροντος τὰ σὰ μὴ ἀπαίτει? P.S. I'm getting Hart's translation on interlibrary loan, but I would...

    New English translation?

If this David Bentley Hart isn't an Orthodox priest, did someone else named Hart, who took holy orders in an Orthodox jurisdiction, do a translation of the New Testament recently? I happen to know (from a priest) that there are three brothers named Hart, and they all became priests, and they...

    New English translation?

Is there a new English translation of the Greek New testament by an Orthodox priest named Fr. Hart? And does anyone have a copy? I'd be interested to know how he translates James 1:7 and Luke 6:30, as I'm not sure I've ever understood either passage. Can "παντὶ δὲ τῷ αἰτοῦντί σε δίδου, καὶ...

Prayers of priest before celebrating the divine liturgy

So the words "...that I lost in the fall" aren't normally used in any entrance prayer?

Prayers of priest before celebrating the divine liturgy

Thank you. And is there something we lost in the fall that the priest asks God to restore to him before he celebrates the mass?

Prayers of priest before celebrating the divine liturgy

Hi everyone. I'm Anglican Catholic, and I recently heard a priest who came to us from the Greek Orthodox communion saying some prayers before he celebrated the Divine liturgy (on the feast of St. Catherine of Mt. Sinai last week.) It sounded like he was asking God to protect him from the...

    Long Distance Absolution

In the Orthodox Church, is it possible to receive absolution over the telephone (if distance, insufficient car fare, or other circumstances keep you from getting to an Orthodox Priest, or keep the priest from getting to you)?

Confession and Absolution over the phone

If there's no traditional Anglican Church near you, and an Anglican priest over two hours away is willing to hear your confession and grant you absolution over the phone, is it valid?

    Trying to understand Gematria

So you believe that Satan designed the Hebrew and Greek language and numbering systems, and the word/number associations they make possible? Wouldn't he have knda needed G-d's help to do that?

    Trying to understand Gematria

I'm trying to understand what (if anything) G-d is telling us in Gematria. Could anyone tell me why the Hebrew "life" (בחיי), "Judah" (יהודה),"kill" (הכה), "Ahitub/my Father is goodness"...

C.S. Lewis and The Bible Codes

I don't know how I read over this the first time I read Perelandra, but before he ended the book, Lewis did pen something that would place the quote in the OP in a larger context. Here it is (from page 186-187.) There seems no plan because it is all plan:there seems no center because it is...
