  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Should Christians engage in Hebrew rituals?

While I was in Jerusalem, I met an interesting Jewish man who, in the course of discussion, mentioned that his view of the Tanakh was that it showed us exactly how God wants to be worshipped, served, etc. His point of view on following the law was that it's how God wants to be treated, not as an...

Do we Believe the words of Jesus...?or just say we do?..

Sorry, it was a terse post. I believe Jesus spoke those words. I believe he spoke them to a cross section of the people living in the area at the time (not just Jews). I believe he taught impossibly high standards to show the futility of trying to follow the law, but also spoke of what life...

Do we Believe the words of Jesus...?or just say we do?..

Pre-cross. Jesus is showing up the futility of the law while showcasing the result of living fully fulfilling the law. The sermon on the mount sees Jesus and his 4 disciples speaking to all manner of people - not just Jews (Matt 4:25) We err greatly if we try to live by the rules.

Can or do or can, sinners get into heaven, that die in sin...?

The average Christian suffers from identity crisis and performance anxiety. My sin is forgotten and blotted out once I'm in Christ. A new creation, no longer desiring sin but righteousness. So my goal is righteousness but even if I step in it or slip up and sin, my advocate intercedes for me...

Any tips for killing idolatry and blocking out distractions?

I understand it's only idolatry if you do it at the expense of your relationship with God or if you think it's bigger than God. For example, I used to worship golf. It consumed my thoughts, held all my attention, I learned all I could. Now, I continue to golf, but it's simply a hobby. As...

All grace gospel and Hebrews 12:5,6

@Stancet The pastors example you cite is where I get twitchy. I'm fully ok with God allowing circumstances around us (I believe free will and Gods unwillingness to violate it create less-than-great circumstances); but I'm not sure that God authors the pain and hardship in our life. Rather...

All grace gospel and Hebrews 12:5,6

I understand that storms will come. I don't believe God sends the storm. It's like receiving a prophetic word that says trouble is coming. It's not to scare the believer, but to encourage them that God has already seen the coming trouble and to know that the believer is not forgotten.

    The Stumblingblock Reversed

I'm a little lost. If Jews believed Jesus is the Messiah, at least they'd be Messianic Jews. My experience with Jews that hold fast to their faith, the cross is idolatry at best. Perhaps I misunderstood your original post. (And after rereading I have). I don't think there's anything that...

All grace gospel and Hebrews 12:5,6

So I'm fairly entrenched in the grace gospel camp (a step removed from full on universalism). I'm struggling to understand Hebrews 12:5,6 in light of grace: “And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not...

    The Stumblingblock Reversed

I believe Jesus is the Messiah. Jews find this offensive.

Can I use a ouija board to communicate with God?

Brother, to be clear: It's a question. There has been excellent discourse. I'm continuing to ask questions to aid in discerning where the line is (or if there even is a line). I've never used a ouija board, I've never even knowingly been in the presence of one. I had no idea there were...

Your God is not going to heal me

That's weird. People identify by their religion all the time. Also, skin type, class or caste, income, and country. Coincidentally they're also all people. But I agree - God loves all the people. Not all the people love God.

Your God is not going to heal me

Good point. I'm just saying I've prayed for believers and I've prayed for atheists. God has healed both (because it isn't dependent on their belief). Whether people go on to believe isn't for me to say or make happen. It's to love and pray and let Jesus manifest and then leave the individual...

Your God is not going to heal me

I've had some folks honest enough to say they were enjoying collecting benefits, or sympathy, or whatever. In Dr. Phil speak, being sick or injured was "working for them" and they didn't want it to change.
