I think the most difficult thing...

The format in the Big Book does not deal with "triggers" it deals with "root causes". A root cause being the character defect (ie: selfishness, fear) that we are going to confess as sin. The concept of "triggers" is not mentioned in AA's Big Book as far as I can tell. The whole concept of...

I think the most difficult thing...

    I think I drank because I was an alcoholic. . .

I think the most difficult thing...

Sixteen years. I'm just leaving for my Tuesday night AA group. Great bunch of people, great place to be the light of Jesus.

I think the most difficult thing...

Yep. Back when I got sober no one even talked about "triggers". We just worked the steps, went to meetings, prayed to God.

I think the most difficult thing...

This is my experience, strength, and hope. . .the 12 steps of AA are based on Biblical principals. . .you can check this out and you'll find it is true. The single Biblical principal that stands out most is repentance. Step one you ID and acknowledge your situation, "we learned we had to fully...

Once we are sober and living in God's will, life is easier because we're no longer swimming upstream. As it says in AA's big book, "we have ceased fighting anything and everyone"!

    Married to an alcoholic

I agree with the above. If you are not going to Alanon then start going now. It's great to post here but it is not a substitute for actually going to meetings and working the Alanon program. Celebrate Recovery is a great program, too, but I would recommend at least one Alanon meeting per week...

    Success in recovery?

That's the point. . .a Buddhist who doesn't repent and turn to Jesus will go to hell. So being sober will be of no profit in the end. Being saved is much more valuable than being sober. . .

    Success in recovery?

Very true. But. . .what does it profit a man if he gains the world but loses his soul? Satan is very cunning. He lets people think their undefined higher power is keeping them sober and so their life is just fine. All the while they remain on a road straight to hell. There are lots of ways...

Prayer for a solution to an alcoholic problem

Best wishes for your retreat. God is able to provide solutions to all your problems. . .you just have to take hold of them.

    daily drinking

Your profile lists you as 39 years old. That's pretty old to be drinking that much on a daily basis. I would say you're not drinking like a normal person. Try going to AA or Celebrate Recovery, make a commitment to go once a week for 4 weeks in a row, and don't drink any alcohol during those...
