  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain

Thank you. Yeah, they mentioned the book in some of their "proof." But looking at it the way you explained it, that makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the responses! P.S. Can someone tell me how to change my user name?

St. Nicodemus of the Holy Mountain

I was reading about St. Nicodemus on OrthodoxWiki and the site mentioned that St. Nicodemus had many Catholic tendencies, including contacting a Catholic Priest about purchasing an indulgence... Does anyone know if there is any truth to this? I hope to God it's false. Any websites with more...

    Unceasing Prayer for the World

You're not being greedy. When someone does something good, that in turn does something good for the world. Therefore your prayers are great not only for yourself but for the rest of humanity. (What I'm mentioning is a very deep topic, but I tried to sum it up in a sentence or two. =/)

    Types of Incense

I use the stick incense. I think a censer would be to smoky for my house.

    EO view of Smoking

I think getting "high" off of marijuana creates a very similar effect as getting drunk does. And since the scriptures condemn drunkenness, it seems it would work the same way.

    EO view of Smoking

Francais, Personally, I don't know how to answer your question. I'm positive the OC condemns smoking marijuana and I don't really think there's anything written in stone about cigarettes but they suggest not to I'm pretty sure... I personally apologize for the inconsideration shown in this...

    Not sure what to do...

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon but only because I know they're right. :D Pray & talk to your Priest.

    die to self

So, this post might turn out terrible but I'm going to post from my understanding of what "dying to one's self" means. Dying to one's self means replacing your will with God's. It means filtering out everything YOU want to do and replacing it with focusing on what God wants you to do (and...

The Six Dawns of Genesis by Alexander Kalomiros

I don't know much, but I have just read through the Genesis chapter in Father Seraphim Rose: His Life and Works where he clearly states that he knows he is no scientist, but he knows that the Holy Fathers clearly state that what is in Genesis is to be taken as truth. *shrug* Let's not let...

    Anybody A Beatles Fan?

I've been trying to watch Across the Universe but I haven't brought myself to finish it. I honestly can't stand the whole hippie, peace, Beatles movement, so that movie is obviously not for me! ;)

Sorry but asking some annoying questions

Welcome, Bace!!! From what you have said, it seems I'm in a similar situation as you. I too am to far away from an Orthodox church, and am having to wait until I go off to college to start attending the Church and to become a Catechumen. I will give you this advice: Try finding a phone number...

    OSB here!

Is there a way that I can trade my leather one in for a hardcover whenever it gets here?

    OSB here!

That's unfortunate that the leather is cheap. Oh well, I've already ordered it so I guess that's what I'll be living with!

    OSB here!

I got an e-mail from the OSB service saying they should get the leather bound bibles in about a week and then they will ship out to homes. So yeah. There you go.

We received our Orthodox Study Bible today!

    Was it leatherbound or what?
