  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The Emerging Church needs to break away from Fundamentalism and Evangelicalism

I think what he was trying to say is that people worship the teacher but pay no attention to the Jesus's teachings. This is also a gripe I have with fundamentalist Christianity.

A few questions about liberal denominations...

I recommend the United Church of Christ. They have a campaign called "Open and Accepting" in which some of the churches specifically welcome gay and lesbian members. The ECLA and Episcopal churches also welcome GLBT. The Unitarians are a whole different animal. Some are Christian but most...

    Merry Christmas v. Happy Holidays

I really think you need to chill. People say "Merry Christmas" or "happy holidays" in order to be polite. There is no war on Christmas. I do agree with you about the gifts though. The commercialism and materialism are out of hand.

Hi. I grew up Methodist but am interested in visiting Lutheran churches. Can anyone tell me what is the difference between the two denominations? All input is appreciated.

    Anxiety & Christianity - a quiet rant

You are not alone. I suffer from anxiety and depression. The church is not of much help, which is why I'm also open to receiving spiritual insights from non-Christian faiths. Many people in our culture do not understand what causes anxiety and depression. You should read The Gospel of...

Final Reflections 5 - Being a Christian Goth

I see no inconsistency between Christianity and the Goth lifestyle. What counts is what is in your heart. Only you and God can answer as to whether you have a godly spirit inside you.

Why do people continue to claim that the UMC is liberal?

I was raised in the United Methodist Church. After I got into my early 20s, I explored churches in other denominations. Relative to most other churches, the UMC is liberal. Liberalism comes in many forms depending on the issue. The church extols the values of social justice, compassion and...

    Trouble with Church

    Red Letter Christians

You have some good points. People often use Paul's writings to perpetuate an unjust political agenda regarding homosexuality. The passages that haters use to bash homosexuals do refer to homosexuality as we understand it today. I doubt that the writers back then ever thought that 2 men or 2...
