  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

    Race relations

In theory I'm quite for multiculturalism and the mixing of cultures - I'm one of those idealistic types - but on a realistic level I understand why there is so much concern about immigration, as it is perceived to be too big in volume and too fast in speed. It is unfortunate that people seem to...

    Myers-Briggs personality types

I guess INFJs are more likely to seek the internet as the way to communicate with people, because the written word is our strongest tool. I was worrying that my chosen career path is not typical for INFJs, and my brother, who studied psychology, told me off.

    Myers-Briggs personality types

Apparently I'm INFJ, which is a tiny minority of humans.

What are your favorite things to do in London?

If you enjoy Chinese food, Joy King Lau and Wan Chai Corner in Chinatown are my personal favourites (and I'm Chinese). The 24-hour Bagel Bake on Brick Lane in Aldgate East / Shoreditch is a MUST. Go on a Sunday morning to take advantage of the market, antiques shops and the international food hall.

    Race relations

I think there is a lot of simmering racism underneath the surface, not just in the shires but even in the supposedly multicultural towns and cities.

    Sinner

Have you ever ignored your conscience and either did something you knew you shouldn't, or didn't do something you knew you should? If so, you know what being a sinner feels like. My wild, uneducated guess is that, if there were no immediate apparent negative consequences from your decision to...

Jesus abolished the entire Old Testament.

I'm Chinese, and can confirm that the ancient Chinese used 10 days as a dating concept (it's so bloody ancient I had to Wiki it). Although, interestingly, the Jewish practice of a seven-day week is documented in a medieval Chinese encyclopaedia (I remember reading it but can't find it at the...

    The first Sabbath

I know that, but presumably these VIDs (very important dates) fall on identifiable dates. The Saturdays in December 2014 fall on 6, 13, 20 and 27. Is it your suggestion that one is "doing things right" if he observes the rest/Sabbath on those dates in December, and that one would be "doing...

    Religion: pros and cons

Because "sometimes" is less conclusive about the frequency than "often". Given that you have no concrete idea how frequent this actually happens isn't it more accurate to say "sometimes"? Generally I go for words with the least conclusive meaning necessary to be conveyed in the circumstances...

What will your rest days be in December 2014 AD?

I neglected to mention that I attend on Wednesdays too for Bible study :D In fact, in our church, on every day of the week there is at least one group of people meeting. It's just that we all choose Sunday to worship together.

    Religion: pros and cons

You're right: maybe there can't be meaning. But since I've thought about wanting to have meaning, I'm entitled to go look for it, am I not? I agree, but "difficult to believe" doesn't equal "did not happen". Think about all the celebrities and their fall from grace with all these allegations...

    Religion: pros and cons

Surely the more accurate adverb to use is "sometimes", not "often". Yes. I find it quite impossible to second-guess other people's motives, which is definitely not what you were doing when you said: Was it?

What do Christians believe about Genesis?

I don't think trying to express theological truth on the concept of original sin was at the forefront of David's mind when he was writing the psalm. He has done some terrible things, and now the penny has dropped, and he realises just how terrible he has been. I'd be expecting a deeply mournful...

    Religion: pros and cons

That's a pity. I don't see Christianity as something that requires me to close my mind. It's really challenging for me.

    Religion: pros and cons

And you know this how? But if there's no religion then all religious people would be atheists, and then they would then be doing charity out of non-religious reasons, right?
