  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

    Christian view of ghosts?

Okay...I asked him, and he said "Jesus Christ is my lord and master...why do they think I can't say that? It's just words." He didn't act like it was hard for him to say or anything.

    Christian view of ghosts?

SharonL -- I am sorry about your friend. I do believe there can be unpleasant spirits, I just don't think Marcus is one, is all. He's a sweet person, and he does not mind me becoming Christian...he reads the Bible with me and is happy for me.

New to Christianity and looking for a church

Thank you guys for all your posts :) Just to clarify the liberal activism thing -- I was not really trying to say that I strongly want liberal political activism, as much as I want a focus on things like missionary work, feeding and clothing the poor, etc. and a lack of the whole "bomb all...

New to Christianity and looking for a church

We do have an American Baptist church in town, called Calvary Baptist Church. They have a nice web site, which is a plus for me as well, because it shows that at least some people in the congregation are interested in technology and are probably relatively young -- up here in deepest darkest New...

    Christian view of ghosts?

To those speaking about the Ouija board...do you really think you could buy real witchcraft supplies at Toys R Us? :) I have played with the Ouija board but it's just a game.

New to Christianity and looking for a church

TimRout: As Aibrean said, I am leery of churches that come right out and say they're "conservative", because I know they will not be accepting of me and in many cases won't even want to help me change in any way -- just yell at me and throw bible verses in my face, as though they aren't sinners...

    Christian view of ghosts?

(reposted from the exploring Christianity forum. :)) This is a weird thing I'm about to say, and I would like people to be respectful of the fact that this is a real experience I have and that I'm not lying. I am a very new Christian, after a long time as an atheist and former pagan. I have...

This is a weird thing I'm about to say, and I would like people to be respectful of the fact that this is a real experience I have and that I'm not lying. I am a very new Christian, after a long time as an atheist and former pagan. I have always sort of...sensed spirits, for lack of a better...

New to Christianity and looking for a church

Thank you, Zoness :) I believe salvation is a free choice, no predestination, and that the communion is symbolic. I also believe that baptism should be done only to adults, not little children who are too young to decide for themselves, because it's an outward sign of an inward change and...

New to Christianity and looking for a church

I am very new to all this and looking for an church where I can feel accepted and happy. As interesting as I find the ritual of Catholicism, I want a more direct relationship with God than that, and in many ways I am a conservative person -- I have no desire to be promiscuous, dress...

    Hello from a seeker

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah and I'm a seeker/very new Christian...don't want to be too cocky yet, I've barely begun :) I was an atheist for 8 years before this and non-religious (or briefly Wiccan) before that, so this is all very new to me. Still seeking out what I want to do, what denomination to...
