  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, you, unilaterally, would not be allowed to do that. We The People can do that.

I don't know if it's enhanced our National Security, but Trump has enhanced China's access to more advanced chips.

China’s trade surplus tops $1 trillion as its exports surge

But as trade with the U.S. weakens, China is diversifying its export markets throughout Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.

[China's surplus for the first 11 months of 2025 is already larger than all of 2024 and a new record, topping $1T for the first time.]

Right, as I indicated at the outset, if the US picks a fight with the world, the world doesn't have to fight with each other -- they can band together and do EVEN MOAR trade.
I thought that we wanted to have less trade with China? We are 10% of their trade, very valuable for the stealing of technology and intellectual property.

Surely, we didn't think that China would allow its economy to fail because we want to have less trade with them. China will succeed by replacing trade with the US with trade elsewhere.

That being said, there will be limited trade between us and China. The countries will negotiate products and terms. I expect that all products will be greatly limited other than technology, rare earths and agriculture.

The Supreme Court is NOT making US tariffs illegal, just the method that Trump has chosen on SOME of his tariffs, primarily the accross the board tariffs and those based on the national "emergency" of trade tariffs with individual countries.

He can keep his tariffs based on national security (including drug trafficking). Tariffs on specific products are not affected.

In any case, tariffs can always be passed by Congress, now or in next year's big, beautiful reconciliation bill.

For 1st time since trade war, Canada exported more than it imported

The Canadian economy achieved a trade surplus for the first time since the U.S. trade war began, as exports rebounded and imports fell in September, according to Statistics Canada.

The agency adds that export to countries other than the United States rose sharply by 11 per cent in the same month — and that while exports to the U.S. increased, imports from there dropped

“It seems to suggest that the trade flow with the United States is beginning to stabilize,” [trade economist] said, adding that the trend of diversification from the U.S. is also continuing.

From Statistics Canada:

Exports to the United States increase

Exports to the United States were up 4.6% in September, partly due to higher exports of aircraft, light trucks and unwrought gold. Meanwhile, imports from the United States declined 1.7% in September, a third consecutive monthly decrease. Canada's trade surplus with the United States widened from $6.0 billion in August to $8.6 billion in September, the largest surplus since February 2025.
More exports to the US.
Less imports from the US.
Widening trade surplus.
Wasn't this suppose to go the other way around under Trump?

So then giving 1.5 million service members $1,776 each comes out to 266 Billion. How does 200B cover that?

Kentucky bourbon exports at risk as Trump-Canada trade tensions escalate

Kentucky's bourbon industry faces potential devastation as President Donald Trump's latest tariff dispute with Canada threatens to halt $43 million in annual whiskey exports. During Tuesday's Oval Office meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump maintained his hard stance on tariffs, declaring that Canada would need to make significant concessions to see any relief.

Iconic American Bourbon Brand Jim Beam is Shuttering its Trademark Distillery in 2026

The iconic American bourbon brand announced it will stop producing whiskey at its facility in Clermont, Kentucky on January 1. The pause will last for the entirety of 2026.

“We’ve shared with our teams that while we will continue to distill at our (Freddie Booker Noe) craft distillery in Clermont and at our larger Booker Noe distillery in Boston, we plan to pause distillation at our main distillery on the James B. Beam campus for 2026 while we take the opportunity to invest in site enhancements."

It's been a rough year for Kentucky's $9 billion whiskey industry. Tariffs and boycotts are hitting business hard:

As a result, the bourbon industry has halted production by more than 55 million proof-gallons, representing a 28% downshift.

Other whiskey companies, such as Jack Daniel's, have laid off employees as they pause production, too.

Fixing the US agricultural trade deficit is a fool's errand

These four factors—shifting U.S. consumer preferences, increased competition from other suppliers, a trade war, and the strong dollar—are all operating in concert, to dramatic effect. Some more minor factors are also at play: rising U.S. production costs largely due to heightened immigration enforcement and curtailed labor supply, higher export logistics costs, and more climate-related yield variability. One-time cash infusions and trade deal-related arm-twisting on U.S. agricultural purchases won’t fundamentally alter any of this.

2) the Trump reconciliation bill will have passed, extending the huge tax breaks for the rich, and including huge spending cuts

3) the rich will get their promised many trillions dollar tax break, including a large reduction in the corporate tax rate
Typical liberal talking points. The rich already pay the majority of taxes oh yea they also create the majority of jobs . Confiscating the wealth of the rich so corrupt politicians can waste and funnel it into their own pockets does not serve the public. Just look at Minnesota! How did Omar become so wealthy in such a short time?

What Trump promised with his 'Liberation Day' tariffs — and what he delivered

“Jobs and factories will come roaring back into our country, and you see it happening already,” Trump said at one point in the speech last April.

Trump’s oft-focused-on metric of manufacturing jobs has dropped every month since April.

Trump also promised that because of tariffs, the US will “pay down our national debt, and it'll all happen very quickly.”

The national debt on that April day, according to the Treasury Department, was about $36.1 trillion. A reading this week puts that figure over $2 trillion higher at $38.2 trillion.

Because the tariffs on Mexican goods remains lower than the average on the rest of the world (and USMCA is more or less intact) Mexican exports to the US have grown, making it one of the winners in the overall whatever this is.

Supreme Court Sets Friday as an Opinion Day, Raising Prospects of a Tariff Ruling

The court doesn’t signal which decision or decisions it will render on a particular date. Rulings are issued at 10 a.m. Eastern time on decision days.

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in early November after the administration appealed decisions made by lower courts that found the tariffs illegal in cases brought by toymaker Learning Resources and wine importer V.O.S. Selections that challenged the president’s use of IEEPA to justify the tariffs.

EU-US trade deal ‘on hold’ after new Trump tariffs

The pact, designed to avoid hefty tariffs on European exports, cannot be passed in light of Washington’s threats against Greenland, lawmakers say.

In a statement online, Manfred Weber, the president of the European People's Party (EPP), said that the escalating U.S.-Europe tensions meant the Parliament would not vote in favor of the pact, which sets U.S. tariffs on imports from the EU at 15 percent in exchange for the bloc not applying levies on American exports.

Trade 'bazooka'

"I see no possibility for the European Parliament to give the green light to move forward with the tariff agreement when we take a decision on Wednesday. Instead, the EU must prepare to respond to President Trump’s tariff attacks, including those targeting Sweden," [Karin Karlsboro — the Swedish MEP] said. "We cannot rule out either retaliatory tariffs or the use of the 'bazooka' if the pressure and coercion continue.”

The EU's so-called trade "bazooka," or Anti-Coercion Instrument, offers a range of punitive measures that can be used against trade rivals that try to threaten the bloc. Among them are restrictions on investments and access to public procurement schemes, as well as limits on intellectual property protections.
