  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think anyone is trying to cover it up. I think they are just saying it is not so serious as to rise to the level of the POTUS nationalizing the NG over it.

Illegally nationalizing the NG.

A reminder: Only authoritarian governments use military to suppress the voice of the people. The illegal activities of the current administration, the suspension of Constitutional rights, and the use of military force and authority to suppress the people are acts of a despot. This administration is declaring war on the American people and on the Republic.

-CryptoLutheran
Does that include the past use of the military to enforce civil rights court orders in the 50s and 60s...which was also against the voice of those people?

There are nuances....

CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said on Monday that President Donald Trump’s approval rating on the issue of immigration has skyrocketed among the American electorate.

Trump’s current net approval rating is above water at +1 point, which surged by 20 points since June 2017, Enten said, citing his own aggregate data. Trump on Saturday deployed the National Guard to combat riots that erupted across Los Angeles stemming from ICE arrests of illegal immigrants.

Trump’s net approval rating] has gone up like a rocket,” Enten said. “Compare now versus eight years ago during Trump’s first term. Look at this, in his first term, Trump was way, way, way underwater at -21 points. But look at this, he’s up [by] over 20 points now in the aggregate, he is in positive territory at +1 point on his net approval rating. Some other polls even have it a little higher than that.”

“There is no issue on which Trump is doing so much better than he was in his first term more than the issue of immigration,” Enten continued.

A majority of Americans, 54% and 51%, approve of Trump’s mass deportations and of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents searching their communities to locate illegal immigrants, a CBS News pollreleased on Monday found. Enten added that a majority of Americans who are “directly connected” to the events going on in Los Angeles, California, approve of Trump’s actions to combat illegal immigration.

Even in the light of the crazy stuff going in California Trump’s approval rating with regards to immigration is higher. What say you?

Keep the discussions civil please.
Speaking of polls. The trend continue to falls.

The Economist/YouGov Poll. June 13-16

That 54% approval is now down to 44% approval given Trump's handling of immigration.

Nevertheless.

"The decision halts a ruling from a lower court judge"

The block is blocked. But that case is still ongoing.
The case will only be ongoing if California officials appeal to a higher court. The article does not say if they have.

That is curious indeed since the last ruling just happened yesterday. We’ll see where this one goes.

A case of a state government versus the federal government is automatically in the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. These lower courts at this point are probably just doing the legwork.

The will of the people would be the laws & Acts passed by the Legislative branch…the voice (popularity) of the populace had to be coerced a bit.

Remember that the civil rights actions prior to 1964 were matters of court orders, not legislation.

I believe the first case was about the federalization of California’s National Guard and the latter about deploying U.S marines.

No decision has been reached, but the lower court was blocked from blocking it.
We need a court to block the court-blocking court.

I remember during Gulf1, hearing the phrase anti-anti-missile-missile missile!

CNN’s Harry Enten Says Trump’s Approval Rating On Immigration Has Surged ‘Like A Rocket’

A SpaceX Rocket, perhaps...

1767410088731.png

"People are beginning to see this not as an immigration question anymore as much as it is a violation of rights, a violation of due process and militarizing neighborhoods extraconstitutionally," said Mike Madrid, a moderate Republican political strategist. "There is no question that is a problem for the president and Republicans."
Trump’s overall approval rating on immigration policy fell from 50% in March, before he launched crackdowns in several major U.S. cities, to 41% in mid-December, for what had been his strongest issue.

That's a bit of a dilemma when going after illegal immigrants. If you do it legally, it takes too much time to deport people, and it doesn't have much of an impact. If you want to make an impact, you have to break or change the law, and the law is going to be tough to change. I have no problem with going after illegal immigrants, but I do have a problem with suspending due process. I would rather put up with having some illegal aliens running around than denying their legal rights.

It's more than just a few but I agree. When we allow the violation of one group's rights, you invite violations of the rights of many more groups to come. At some point, these federal agencies will have to turn their attention to others to continue justifying their now way overinflated budgets.
