• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ah, the emojis make a difference. I can post if I don't include any emojis. I think. Thanks to @johnnypapa for this insight.
You can post an emoji, but not by clicking the image of it in the emoji list. Example, you can type : and then ) to make a smiley face, and it will appear as a smiley in your post. However, if you try to edit your post once the smiley is there, you won't be able to save it until the smiley is deleted.
Isn't this fun? :)

CF Technical Glitch Instruction Manual. (Why Not?)

Hi everyone, going to make an staff information post about how to get your post through on CF during this hour of technology pain and suffering. So here is a list of known things that can cause your post to not go through, and how to deal with the problems:

1. Links. Links do not work, like half the time. If you run into this problem, try hitting the [ ] icon in the upper right corner to post as plain text. Take out any bracketed URL tags surrounding your link and try again. Quoting links will also cause this issue, so taking out quotes may help, or axing their links.

2. Bible Verse references, because those turn into a link. The irony of not being able to post Bible verses on a Christian Forum due to technical difficulties is not lost on me. This problem also applies to Bible Verses in posts that you are quoting and their links too. My suggestion is to break the references somehow if this is your problem to stop the link function - Romans / 3:23, Romans 3:*23, etc.

3. Formatting like bold/italics and fancy headers. At the moment, flipping to plain text using the [ ] and then hitting Post reply fixes the problem (otherwise you would not be seeing this post, with its three headers).

Edit: If hitting the [ ] gives you another error (like I also ran into when making this post), hit Ctrl-A to select all of your post, Ctrl-C to copy it, and then refresh the page. Then hit the [ ] icon BEFORE you paste your post back in with Ctrl-V, then hit Post Reply.

4. Quotes have been failing too in select cases, so if there's nothing else eating your post, it may be the quote. I've also had quoting fail at the button of Insert Quotes triggering an error, so yeah. An alternative is mentioning the user's name with the @ symbol.

If there's another glitch you run into that isn't on the above list, please feel free to PM me or an admin or make a support ticket to try and rescue your post. If you can't get it to post, what you can do is hit the [ ] icon, copy that into a Notepad document or other text editor, and save it for when the admins manage to fix the problem. This can also help if you're frustrated and need a break from fighting the computer.

I'm sorry everyone has to go through this, probably the most awful Christmas present the forum has ever received. If it's any consolation, us mods are suffering just as much as you are, and the admins are working on a fix. But I hope this information helps you survive however long it takes to fix these issues. Take care and Merry Christmas.

And also, I'm a Mod, so I still have to say that complaining about the forum is still Disruptive Behavior (and blaming other users for this situation is also against the rules). Hopefully folks can use this information to move in a more constructive direction with this thread, though I think there's a difference between complaining and discussing something genuinely bad.

oh good, it worked! But I guess it only works on this computer and not my main one.
What browser are you using on each computer?

Well, I was using Firefox on my home computer, and Chrome on a different one that seemed to work. But since then, I've had problems on the other one as well, regardless of browser. As LP pointed out, it often depends on what's being posted. But sometimes I've gotten the "Oops, something went wrong!" error message even when posting without links or anything else. The inconsistency makes it especially frustrating.

EDIT: This post made with my home computer with Firefox, which didn't work in the past, but did this time.

When you're posting a reply, find the word "Preview" in the upper right corner of the reply box. The icon you're looking for is 2 icons to the left of that.
