  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Conservative Marc Theissen column: Trump built a winning coalition. White nationalists will destroy it.

Oh, stop with your censorship nonsense. Nobody needs to be censored, and you know it.
Exactly, the issue is about which views are welcome within the Republican Party. Is it a big tent that can accommodate antisemitism and white supremacy? Or is it a slightly smaller tent?

It's a mistake to consider Fuentes as within the Republican party tent, since he's just a streamer./ podcaster. He's a free citizen (not a politician) who can classify himself anyway he chooses, even if I and others personally don't like him. Which I don't.

If you do a quick search on the internet, it's primarily the left who gives him the most attention, because it's useful to expose the parts about him they dislike the most. They probably make up the majority of his audience, even.

We've already played these baby games when the left tried to tie David Duke to Trump, because of an endorsement.

...Now they want to portray Fuentes as the voice of the party.

Marc Thiessen is not 'the left'
I know, you made that very clear in the OP, which is why I said he was simply overreacting. Doesn't mean I can't still say that the left is more infatuated with Fuentes than the right. Also, it's fair to say that Thiessen is reacting to the left's concern with Fuentes, when he tries to scare Republicans on who they should or should not be listening to. Again, I don't like Fuentes, just like Thiessen doesn't, but I wouldn't waste my time on talking about Fuentes, because bad publicity is still publicity. He should just let it go.

That's certainly not true. The left is more repulsed by Fuentes than the right, when repulsion should be universal. Any infatuation is from elements on the right.

To clarify, the left is infatuated with exposing Fuentes' flaws. Publicly. Because they think it makes the Republican party look bad.

Key point, don't listen to kids when it comes to politics. It's a grown man's game.

But the Democratic candidate has played the role of "common enemy of the right-half factions" for the last few election cycles. That trend didn't start with Biden.
Never would have argued it did.

And we saw a similar sort of dynamic playing out in Trump's first run regarding that time he got an endorsement from David Duke, and then rather than rejecting that support, played the "I'm not familiar with David Duke" card. It didn't cause fracturing of the party after Trump won and the common enemy of Hillary was no longer "a threat".
Nah. Those people needed to incubate and Trump was a fine mother hen to keep those eggs warm enough.

Fuentes broadcasts his flaws publicly, and his messages are amplified by those on the right.

But that doesn't explain on the "fracturing" aspect that we see happening today.

I think my explanation pertaining to more diversity of thought on the Israel subject within the GOP now vs. then is a better theory than "we just need to let the racists simmer so we can still use them in 2024"

"if you're in the GOP, and you oppose Israel, that must mean you're on Team Fuentes" wasn't a thing as much in 2016 because the overwhelming majority in the GOP supported Israel, so their support was the "distancing mechanism" of sorts.

Now the waters are a little more muddy.

You have no evidence to prove that. I already mentioned that I did a google search on Fuentes, and the majority of the results were in fact from the left condemning / exposing him. If I had noticed a lot of right wing sites quoting him, or speaking positively about him, I wouldn't have made the claim.

I stand by the statement that the left may actually be his biggest audience, and that the right hardly knows him at all.

I've also never met a republican who amplified the messages of Marjorie Taylor Green. To be honest, she was also a left wing favorite in the same way.

Difference between Green and Fuentes is that she was actually in politics, so she got the deserving boot. Fuentes is just a free citizen with a lot of energy, and an inflated ego.

That's from the past. Perhaps he was giving her a chance, but she proved unworthy... You won't see Trump say such things today.
And what made her unworthy?
She wants to expose the Epstein list.
That's all.

In all other aspects she was 100% sycophantic to Trump.

I repeat, the MTG episode is exposing the misogynists who support Trump.

She's also wrong to oppose ME intervention. She does not grasp that support of a Western ally (Israel) helps America. Her priorities and ideas shift back and forth like an adolescent learning for the first time as she goes.

...She's unreliable. Inexperienced.

Her ideas do NOT shift back and forth. As she saw more first hand accounts of Israeli atrocities, she responded by shifting her opinion in on direct.

I am absolutely no MTG fan, but to think that "changing your mind after a preponderance of evidence that contradicts your opinion" is somehow a bad thing, I can't help you.
