No it’s actually a progressive left wing policy which many blue states still endorse. Schools do indeed counsel children exhibiting gender dysphoria and some schools, for example California, do not inform the parents. This is insane.

If there are parents as ignorant about what trans is as conservatives in this forum then students will definitely need a little counselling before they decide to come out at home.

Except the 2 to 3 percent of the population that represents LGBTQ++ are not "we the people". We live in a constitutional republic. Where are the rights of the majority?

But hey, in this constitutional republic; if you want to rent a space and advertise "drag queen show for children"; you are free to do so. No one is going to stop you. And those who want their kids to participate can take them there. (After all it's just fun. Right?)

Things that parents do not want their kids seeing; should not be "part of the curriculum" of public education; where the parents have no say in what happens in the school.

If you would object to "Roman Catholic School style public education for K-12" based on "religious freedom"; why should I accept an ideology that idolatrarizes sexuality?

Do most trans persons say that their behaviour defines their identity? Most that I have talked to say that it is some kind of innate feeling, regardless of if they are forced into any specific behavioural construct, but my guess is that at least some agender individuals would agree with you, that gender isn't something one is but something one does. So there are possibly not one answer to your question.

It also depends on what an individual may define as a construct of identity. How much weight do we give to our feelings in our self assessment of who we are?

Of course it’s wise to understand that our feelings don’t always reflect what is actually true. Despite “negative messages” we get, tend to be the ones that “stick”.

And a lot of people make decisions based on “feelings”. Which in the case of running off negative messaging, there is limited ability to make good decisions in that state.

Then of course there is the “best decision given circumstances” (or perceived circumstances) option too.

And here is where I’ve seen the biggest detriment to trans people’s psyches when they come to the conclusion: “maybe I shouldn’t have done this”? There’s no “totally going back”. Once the hormone treatment and surgery are done; there’s a limited amount of “undo” that’s possible.

And here is where the most psychological danger of suicide comes in. I’ve listened to many “detransitioners” (or desisting) say they genuinely feel like there is no way God will ever forgive them for what they did to their bodies. (Which of course isn’t true!)

Yet believing the lies is what got them where they are in the first place. (Very wounded people with serious psychological challenges and/or neuro developmental disorders.

And of course if they walk away from the ideology they are ridiculed and often with more vitriol than from those who “had a problem” with their transitioning in the first place.

And the end result is that a lot of them don’t survive, because they commit suicide. They feel there’s no hope and no one will accept them, no matter what they do.

It’s really a horrendous tragedy!

That is not for the school to decide. The parent still has primary responsibility for their children. Nothing should happen without the parent’s consent.

Well that’s an interesting definition. It used to be that one needed a gender dysphoria diagnosis to get insurance to pay for the hormone treatments. (I don’t think that even still now, no insurance (in the US at least) will pay for the surgery. They have to go by the DSM-5R criteria for diagnostic purposes / at least as related to insurance.

Insurance will at least still cover counseling services.

So the definition you quoted there is interesting; although it may not match the DSM diagnosis criteria. It takes a lot to update the DSM which I think was last updated a year or more ago now?

But I can see too where that definition may fit for men who have autogynephielia. And want surgery.

There’s been a big activist push to get all “sexual aberration” diagnoses removed. Which…. We’ll see where that goes; because ones that get people incarcerated, treatment is still payed for through public mental health services funding. Which mental health services (except for populations like veterans; is quickly disappearing; (and has been for almost 2 decades now.

So yes, what you posted could be the coming definition in the next DSM revision.

Yeah, this whole debacle puts all kinds of people in difficult positions professionally as well as violations of one’s own moral conscience.

If there is someone I know who I know is not presenting as their biological sex. I avoid pronouns altogether. I have a problem pretending something is true that I know isn’t.

I know a couple of “trans” people and at least the one I know well, has not said anything to me about my lack of pronoun use.

It’s actually a very sad situation. This is a fellow veteran who’s now been in a locked psych unit at a VA facility for almost 3 months now….basically in order to keep her alive.

And I think I’m pretty much the only person who goes to see her? One other vet has been up there. She’s always “happy” to see me.

It kills me though because where’s all the “trans allies” blah blah blah. No it’s the conservative Christian (who voted for Trump on top of it) who’s visiting her basically because I don’t want to see her die!

Last visit, we spent an hour and half listening to Christian music on her phone. She said the songs help her feel better.

I mostly agree, but it's full of leftist jargon. I've seen that kind of training. Likely everything that's said is in some objective sense true, but the overall smug attitude is one of the major things turning people away from liberal politics. Surveys suggest that this is a major problem for the Democratic party. We need a way to encourage acceptance of people who are different, while including people with traditional backgrounds in our sympathies.
