  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I know, that's because it isn't a spinning globe, it is an unmovable earth, how do we know ? Because the Bible tells us so.
No it doesn't. As I said, the bible does not tell us the shape of the earth.

And nowhere in Scripture does it say the earth is a moving ball either, but people on here are telling me that it is.
That is not the purpose of Scripture, which is to reveal the mystery of salvation.

No - But it does tell us that the earth is unmovable.
The bible does not use the word "unmoveable." It says, "not be moved," and that does not necessarily mean "motionless." David wrote:

“I have set the LORD always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.” (Ps 16:8 NKJV) (my emphasis)

Did David mean that because God was at his right hand, he would remain motionless for the rest of his life? Of course not - that would be ludicrous. Notice that both with regard to David and the earth, the words used in the bible are not, "shall not move," but "shall not be moved."

I know the earth is level & stationary b/c the Bible & God tells me so.
No, it doesn't.
What part of "that is not the purpose of the Bible" don't you get?

The Bible is about God's love, God' character, God's salvation and God's desire for a relationship with us, his created.
Flat Earth has nothing to do with any of that, nor does it address it. So why would the Bible teach it?

So stop saying that the Bible teaches the earth is flat - because as soon as you are challenged, you have to agree that it doesn't.
At best, that is a lie.

And in other places it says the earth moves.

Yes by earthquakes, not spinning around in space.

He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. Psalms 104:5

God teaches us a lot more than just salvation, have you ever read the old testament ?

Of course I have.
And it doesn't teach the shape of the earth.

The sun does rise & set in our view.
What do you mean “in our view”? That actually means it doesn’t rise or set, it just “appears to”.

That’s exactly the same as saying that the sun stopped in the sky “in our view”, and that it didn’t actually stop.

You’re not being consistent, nor are you being honest.

You’re trying to squirm your way out of making false claims.

No - But it does teach us that the earth doesn't move & that the sun stopped in the sky & that there are waters over the firmament.

Yes , it says that the earth cannot be moved, not that it doesn't move in the way God made it to.

The Old Testament points to the New. The sacrificial system points to the one, final sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. The priesthood points to the perfect priesthood of Christ. The Promised Land points to heaven. And so on.

Correct, just like what you said about Joshua, that the sun only appeared to stop for him.
