  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Blunted emotions might be starting

Hi, I'm starting to struggle (after all these months) with the beginnings of emotional blunting regarding my dad's passing.

While my brother calls me and tells me he cries every now and then (I'm not deriding that because that's how I used to be), I'm struggling with a new thing in which I am feeling frustrated by the effects of my dad's words and actions during my life that might have led in part to the stage I am at in my life now and I don't know if it's exactly a lack of forgiveness but a feeling of frustration/anger at the consequences, and it's causing me to not be able to feel the emotions I first did in late May and during the month of June.

I do believe though, that my dad somehow knows the truth now, God has shown him. Same goes for my mom.

I pray this daily. If you are too exhausted, listen to the contemporary version of the prayer in song offered below the text. I find it not only comforting but helpful. :praying:

Wow I hadn't seen that one before. Thank you so much. There are times where I am almost too tired to pray the regular routine I have, and I ask myself if I have only one prayer to say on any given day, due to being too tired, what would it be.

Listen to the contemporary version of it sung below the prayer. I usually recite it every morning and add my prayer intentions to it. But when I’m just so frazzled can’t make a good attempt at it without my mind going all over the place, I’ll pray the version in song. It helps relieve my anxiety as well.

Healing from loss is a journey, often with many ups and downs.
Sometimes we 'feel' alot ... other times, it's like we are numb and feeling nothing.
All very normal, uncomfortable and concerning as it may be at times.

For me, the important part has been to feel the feelings, or not, however 'the grief ship' sails ...
holding onto Christ at all times, like The Life Preserver:heart: that He is!

May God continue to bless your healing journey.

I do think that the blunting could be a defense mechanism against completely falling apart.

I think you may be right.
We can only handle so much intense emotion, and then a reprieve from it is good.

It's mysterious how it goes, but the body does seem to know how to 'take care' of us in emotionally challenging times.
