  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Prince Andrew will relinquish the use of his royal titles including Duke of York after discussing the matter with King Charles.

“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family,” Prince Andrew said in a statement released by Buckingham Palace.

The change will take effect immediately, a royal source told CNN.

Prince Andrew has faced mounting pressure over his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and his links to an alleged Chinese spy.

However:
Andrew will continue to reside at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where he has a private tenancy agreement, a royal source said. He will also retain his title as “prince” because he is the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

...sooooo not any sort of real punishment

That’s because of the email leak. They’ve been trying to push him out of the royal lodge for a while because he can’t afford it. Charles wanted to give it to Camilla but he probably has something on them and refuses to leave. The post went viral and the line about playing is impossible to explain. Similar messages were released between Epstein and Sarah too. They’ve been asked to stay away for the holidays and won’t be going to Sandringham. The public wants Charles to cut ties.

He resigned from public life in 2020 (no more opening hospitals, visiting schools, that kind of thing) and in 2022 was stripped of some ceremonial military titles by the late Queen.

Now he has given up various aristocratic titles - he was a Duke, an Earl and a Baron, but no more.

Just a Prince.

Ironically, it's not the "public life" that got him in trouble, it's what was going on in the "private life"

Does "The crown" really have that kind of pull over US politics anymore?

If it was a case where Australia or Canada were at the forefront of the Epstein scandal (or any of the other countries that are still part of the "British Commonwealth") I could see that being the case to a certain degree,

It was largely public opinion that forced the move, according to the press.

Between Andrew and his nephew in California, Royal Fatigue is becoming a real thing. While as a Christian I'd be concerned if I had enmity for these people, I find it difficult to muster much sympathy.

I think Australia will become a Republic one day, and I think this sort of royal behaviour will speed it up.

If William and Catherine become King and Queen, it might take longer as they have a pretty good public image.

I'm biased as she and my mother have the same maiden name (Middleton) but they would have been a long way apart in social standing. Apparently it's a rather inconsequential name, meaning "Middle of the Town" or something like that - ordinary urbanites for centuries.

Middleton is a locational Anglo-Saxon surname originating from dozens of different settlements in England going by one of the pre-7th-century Old English variations of "middle" (such as midel) and "town" (such as tun). The earliest recorded examples of such hamlets date to 1086 and include Middeltone, Mideltuna, and Middeltune in such Derbyshire, Shropshire, Sussex, and Yorkshire. The surname "Mideltone" is recorded in Oxfordshire (1166), "Midilton" is noted in Arbroath, Scotland (1221) and "Middelton" is found in Yorkshire (1273).[1]

Disgraced Prince Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson 'agree to leave Royal Lodge — but demand two homes in return'

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have agreed to leave Royal Lodge but are demanding two properties in return, according to reports. The disgraced royal, 65, will voluntarily leave the 30-room country amid the continued outcry over his “peppercorn rent”, royal sources have said.

But Andrew wants to live in Frogmore Cottage in exchange for his departure from the Grade II-listed mansion, for which he has a private tenancy with the Crown Estate, it is claimed. Meanwhile, Andrew’s ex-wife Fergie, 66, has allegedly set her sights on nearby Adelaide Cottage, the current home of the Prince and Princess of Wales.

No. The United States isn’t really concerned about the crown unless it involves us directly.

Can the term prince ever be stripped away or is that his birth right so to speak?

Queen Elizabeth could have done it, theoretically, by disowning him. But otherwise, it's a birthright - if you're the son of the king/queen, you are a prince.

Thank you!

As an American, I’m not sure how monarchies or royal titles work ;)

People with ruthless ancestors made up fancy words for why they’re better than us plebs, that’s how it works.
