  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

An EBT Crisis?

Anyone here aware of the big TikTok trend where people on EBT are threatening mass thievery of food from stores come November 1st? They're saying that if they don't get their free food, it's still going to be free because their just going to walk into the stores and steal it. I mean, many people do that already but they're talking about doing it en masse. And they say if it takes violence, that's what it takes. Through compilations I've come across hundreds of these videos. And of course these aren't the elderly, the sick, the disabled. These people look (and talk) as if they're quite capable of doing a days work, but just refuse to. You think this is all just them venting their entitlement or do you think there's trouble ahead?

Unfortunately I can't post any of the videos because I can't recall a single one which wasn't laced with profanity from start to finish.

Many on EBTs are working. They just don't grovel.

Cutting SNAP benefits was unwise and the Republicans may hurt themselves.

Per AI :

  • Higher usage in some red states: States that have reliably voted Republican in recent elections, particularly in the South, show some of the highest SNAP participation rates in the country. This includes Louisiana, West Virginia, Alabama, and Oklahoma, all of which had well-above-average enrollment rates in early 2025.
  • More federal benefits per capita: Research from the Milken Institute notes that red states, on average, receive more in federal safety-net support, including SNAP benefits, per capita than blue states.
I am not on TIC TOC to see what is going on there but I hope police are aware.

The people in the videos I'm talking about brag about not working, and they certainly do not grovel. They demand under threat of violence.

I see mass looting ahead. And not just grocery stores.

I don't go on tiktok either. But I found completions of them on youtube by searching 'tiktok threats of looting'. It's exactly as the OP described.

Remember: when the looting starts, the shooting starts.

Oh don't worry. This is America, the shooting will start way before any looting happens. I mean, how will the poors know how to behave themselves if they don't get hurt?

The ones I've seen, appear to be satirical and created for views rather than actual threats.
This is usually the case with any trends on tik tok. Mostly copy cat content to ride the wave of attention before the next trend comes along.

Yes, there's no point in denying it.
In all the videos I've seen I recall maybe one which mentioned the name of a specific store. It was some supermarket name I'd never heard of. And please tell me all the names of monopolies so I can write my congressman.

The retail monopoly in that case consists of Walmart, Costco, Kroger and Delhaize. The Wholesale side seems to be dominated by companies like Pepsico, Sysco and Nestle.

 Those companies are not even remotely related. They compete against each other.

The retail stores do, but there are not very many as you see. The wholesale market is dominated by segments.

I live in a large city and Kroger and Delhaize have zero presence here. Kroger was here back in the '80's but they got out-competed by a family run chain so they shut down. I have an old friend who owns a local business which competes with Sysco. Anyway, being large or dominant is not being a monopoly.

I think they’re using the term in response to the reduction of shopping choices. Chains dominate most areas. The merger between Kroger and Albertsons was blocked for that reason.

The proposed merger between Kroger and Albertsons was blocked by courts in December 2024. Federal and state courts, including those in Oregon and Washington, issued injunctions, citing concerns about reduced competition, potential for higher food prices, and negative impacts on workers. Albertsons officially terminated the merger agreement following these rulings.
