  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

People who love America must constantly endeavor to improve it. If Europe does certain things better than we do, why not adopt them?
I cant think of anything that Europe does better than America in its governance. If you really want Europe, you should move there.

1) Healthcare
2) Wages
3) Democracy

If I ever catch you complaining about things in America, say transgender issues or something, I'll let you know that if you want a more repressive government then you can always move to Saudi Arabia.

I don't think their governance on any of those things is better. I think its more oppressive.

I'm not the one running around wanting a different governance. I don't want European and I don''t want Islamic.

If you want European, go live there.

Which is not to be more American, but be more European. If you really loved America and American values then you find more ways to fall into its core rather than away from it. Look back to its founding and what made it great and new and unique.

Trying to make it like Europe isn't doing that it's moving away from that. Rhe 1st Ammendment isnt the only thing that make American great and unique.
Americans decide what's "more Anerican." And polls are showing Project 2025 is the most un-American theory ever.

Many of those laws and amendments actually make us less like Europe and less like other countries. Many of those Ammendments are actually making good on the original promise of the founding.
Yes, Many laws and amendments improved America; that's the purpose of change—to make the country better.

But in your post #89 you wrote

“People who.love America aren't consistently trying to change it and make it more like Europe.”

This statement is categorically incorrect, and regrettably, some contemporary conservatives express similar sentiments, suggesting that those advocating for change in America harbor animosity toward the country.

That is a ridiculous notion. Stubbornly staying on a path that no longer works because you believe it is more “American“ is not what this country was founded on.

As an American, I take pride in my country and its achievements. However, I believe your continued criticism of Europe is unwarranted and does not reflect an informed understanding of the continent. Europe differs from America in many ways, including its approaches to politics, economics, and societal norms. Nonetheless, most Western European countries are highly regarded, and their citizens have high levels of satisfaction with their quality of life.

Instead of criticizing Europe, it may be more beneficial to visit several times and gain insights from their experiences.

This country is about the constitution. More people should become more knowledgeable of it so they can evaluate contemporary decisions by it.

As an American, I do not advocate for altering our governance to mirror that of European, Islamic, or other nations' democratic systems. However, I am open to adopting policies or practices from other countries, such as Europe or Japan, when they demonstrably benefit the citizen or improve our system of governance.

Those who refuse to consider alternatives or changes in processes, policies, or governance may demonstrate ignorance and rigidity.

What we have to do first is agree on what American values really are. Hint: they may not be quite the same as your values in all respects.

When I look back at it's founding and what made it great and new and unique I find it systematically being obscured by the toxic myth of American Exceptionalism.

It's crazy to me to think it's helpful to follow a 250 year old political document and think "well, this is the best we could do".

Agrarian...in the middle of the scientific revolution.....

Nuts.

Many of them do. They don't like America, they make all kinds of claims about how horrible of a country it was and is. America is on stolen land, America was built on slavery, America is still a systemically racist country etc etc. There is very little they like about America. Thats why they are constantly trying to make it more like Europe, because for some reason they believe Europe is better.

Exactly. Thats my point. Europe isn't America and America isn't Europe. If you want Europe, you should go live there. I'm not saying Europe is bad. Ive been there many times and enjoyed the visits. Its just different. Its not better. If anyone thinks it is, they should go live there.

America has a lot of things in its Constitution that Europe does not have. It has a lot of rights that Europe does not have.
