  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Name something the protest accomplished?
Dismissing a protest involving 7 million citizens reflects a lack of understanding of history and democracy, as such demonstrations are central to democratic processes.

The arrogant reaction from Republicans to the No King protest appears immature and suggests a lack of understanding of democracy or history. Hilary Clinton’s “deplorable” comment deeply affected millions of Americans, who responded at the ballot box. Similarly, it is likely that Speaker of the House’s description of protesters as the “Hate America crowd” will also see a response from voters.

The only people who participated in those protests Saturday were people who were never ever going to vote for a GOP person. IMO, those protests accomplished nothing except reveal to some Americans how hateful and radical some of those protesters really are.
You are right , the citizen who participated in last weekend's street protests are unlikely to vote for the GOP. However, I do not understand why you believe that exercising democratic rights through public demonstrations is un-American or hateful?

It showed that over 7 million Americans could peacefully exercise their Constitutional right to protest a corrupt administration. It showed the ignorance of Republicans who called these protests "hate America" protests.
In other words, the protest proved that Trump isn't a fascist dictator, nor a king.

And I'm going to stop right there. The communists? Yeah, this is going straight into conspiracy paranoia land as an arguement. The nebulous communists, out to get ya.

You are right.

Contrary to claims by some Democrats of an impending end to democracy in America, current events suggest otherwise. The turnout of seven million people protesting against the commander-in-chief demonstrates that democratic principles remain active. Assertions to the contrary tend to be alarmist rather than reflective of the actual situation.

However, Republicans should not dismiss the movement lightly; instead, they ought to take them seriously. If historical trends are any indication, there is potential for a blue wave during the mid-term elections that could shift the balance of power in Congress—potentially affecting one or both chambers. As a result, President Trump may become a lame-duck president for the remainder of his term after January 2027.

And Trump knows dumb people don't like him either

Just like how educated people can't recognize the signs of fascism.

I think I understand your point. Your point being, "Anyone who supports Trump are dumb, and everyone who agrees with me is smart."
I'm sorry.

My statements were both DIRECT quotes from Trump.

If you don't like the implications of the two statements, talk to him about that perspective. I'm not going to argue.

Since I named the US government as the culprit and not "the communist's" I'm unclear what your issue is.

I mentioned that communist groups funded the protest. That was my sole mention of communists.

Someone else mentioned communism and I told them they could call the things the protestors have a history of supporting whatever they wanted. I didn't mention what I did call it other than a deprivation of rights and a violation of law and the reason some Jan 6 protestors might have wanted to protest in the first place.

As opposed to the no kings protestors who supported all that but oppose a democratically elected president and call him a king for enacting the policies he was voted into office to enact.

You may end conversation with me whenever you like - perfectly free no hard feelings but I believe you might have misunderstood.

You should admit though that supporting the government depriving US citizens of their constitutional rights on the one hand and then going to a rally paid for by communist groups among other funding sources on the other hand to protest the government does make people question someone's commitment to constitutional principles as a general rule. It seems hypocritical.

There's more than enough evidence to support the point of view as whom funded those protests. If you choose to ignore it, that is your choice to make.
