  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Holy jeez. That's more than double the rate of any of the cities on this list.

Why aren't we sending the NG to your town?

Why would Trump want to send anyone here, he would get no attention for it.

The gun homicide rate in Holmes County, MS, is 102.8 per 100,000, with a Black population of 80%. Poverty rate 38.0% (26.5% above the national average)

The gun homicide rate in Coahoma County, MS, is 74.6 per 100,000, with a Black population of 65%. Poverty rate 36.3% (24.8% above the national average)

The gun homicide rate in Leflore County, MS, is 66.9 per 100,000, with a Black population of 74.5%. Poverty rate 34.8% (22.9% above the national average)

There are no counties in California with a majority Black population, but there are a few small communities in LA County that are.

View Park-Windsor Hills: 83.8%

Ladera Heights: 72.4%

Leimert Park: 70%

Baldwin Hills: 65%

The gun homicide rate in these communities is 0. These communities are upper middle class to affluent, so they do not have the same issues as Mississippi when it comes to poverty and lack of opportunity.

The four cities in California that come the closest to the Mississippi Delta region as far as poverty, high minority populations (greater than 95% Black and Hispanic), and gang violence are Compton, Watts, Hawthorne, and Inglewood. The combined gun homicide rate in these four cities is 19.3 per 100,000. Poverty rate 16% (5.5% above the national average)

A better comparison would be cities and counties in the state of Maryland, which has similar gun laws to those found in California.

Prince George's County, Maryland, has a Black population of 59% and a gun homicide rate of 16.7 per 100,000. Poverty rate 10.3% (1.2% below the national average)

Baltimore City has a Black population of 60% and a gun homicide rate of 36.3 per 100,000. Poverty rate 20.2% (8.7% above the national average)

The image below is hard to read, but each of the blue dots represents gun laws and safety measures taken in the states of Maryland, California, and Mississippi.

View attachment 371687

Conclusion: High poverty rates (Not "Blacks") + Weak gun laws = High rates of gun violence

You're welcome an thanks for pointing out my mistake. I was able to find sources that put the Black population at 75.9%, so I edited my post to show the correct number.

So we throw our hands up and say nothing can be done again?
I’m sure it’s too soon after one shooting or another to do anything.

Correction: it’s Americans killing Americans. If only Americans weren’t so predisposed to crime and low morals there would not be this situation.

I’m being subtle.
Correction: it's humans killing humans. So don't try to make it an "Americans" problem.

and people who do things like this would not obey those laws anyway. Laws only work for people who care. It is like this people who can be trusted with guns do not need gun laws and people who cannot (usually) do not give a darn.

By that line of reasoning, we should get rid of murder laws as well. Criminals aren't going to care about the law anyway.

I think we are getting broader and broader here.

Humans have always killed humans.

But we also know there are certain humans that seem to be predisposed to kill other humans.

In America its a certain group who is predominantly involved in that percapita.

Why on earth are certain folks bound and determined to do something thats either completely unrealistic or propose things that wouldn't have prevented this type of attack.

What gun law would have stopped this?

But it only happens with such frequency and fatality in America. So it is an American issue.

You can’t really get more granular than the nationality of a people. They share a common culture, education, health benefits; they all grow up with the American dream.

What should people expect from people who are producing children to either get a check, they are 14, 15, 16, etc.. years old, they are on drugs and trading sex for drugs or all of the above

Do you really think these people are worried or care how these children are going to grow up.

When a parent is 14 years old, on drugs, and uncaring about the condition of their children the state usually gets involved and removes the children from the home.

What we don't do is decide we don't care about the conditions that American children grow up in.

I'n Titus we are told as older women to teach the younger women to love their husbands and their children. It's a responsibility to teach the youth how to love and care for their children appropriately. As a society we have the ability to teach kids, how to adult and impress upon them the reasons such things are important.

It is perhaps they don't prefer to live in squalor selling their bodies, if another alternative is shown and taught.

They are not living in squalor. There is more money running around them than they can count from the Government and the selling of guns and drugs.
Plus many of the kids are being raised by grandparents who are older and are not keeping up with what they are doing. Plus it is not all kids that are doing this, some of these people shooting people are in their 20's, 30's and 40's

You could very well be in a check out line at wal-mart, with a person who is going to shoot up a gathering or place that very afternoon or night.

This is nothing but a game to these people and a game played with guns and death.
