President Donald Trump prompted concern among some of his Christian supporters for comments he made over the weekend, suggesting he doesn't believe he's going to Heaven.

"I don't think there's anything going to get me in Heaven," Trump told reporters on Air Force One on Sunday on his way to Israel to sign a peace deal ending the war in Gaza. "I think I'm maybe not Heaven-bound. I may be in Heaven right now as we fly in Air Force One. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make Heaven."

Trump was responding to a question that asked if brokering peace in the Middle East could help him "get into Heaven," which was a reference to comments he made in August that prompted a flurry of theological debate when he appeared to claim that ending the Russia-Ukraine war could help determine his eternal state.

"I want to try and get to Heaven if possible," Trump told "Fox & Friends" on Aug. 19. "I'm hearing I'm not doing well. I hear I'm really at the bottom of the totem pole."

"But if I can get to Heaven, this will be one of the reasons," he added about peace in Ukraine at the time.

Most of us posting in 'One Bread One Body' are Catholic. Others are indeed welcome but we draw the line when they start telling us what we should believe. Say, for example, about how there is no hell in their opinion. We follow Catholic teaching in OBOB and we aren't providing a platform for people who are challenging that. There are rules within Christian Forums where Baptists or Adventists or Catholics are able to regulate comments so they can have a safe haven from being attacked by the ever so common attackers.

By all means feel free to hang out in OBOB. Good to have you. But don't be shocked when we bring up that there are limits to what can be said in this particular forum, including someone attempting to deny that there is a real place called hell, which of course Jesus spent a lot of time talking about. There are plenty of very anti-Catholic people in Christian forums, but they can't post their warez here. They manage to find ways to post such things in other parts of Christian Forums though.

This ain't OBOB though. However, when it comes to Catholicism and Orthodoxy, isn't assurance of salvation discouraged because it's seen as overconfidence?

The idea though as I understand it is not having assurance of salvation is what is taught. With 1 Corinthians 9:27 being the primary verse. During a ‘once saved, always saved’ debate on CF, I asked a Catholic on CF if he believed he was saved and he said "I don't know".

There's a Greek Orthodox Bishop named Kallistos Ware, who when asked the question "are you saved?" said he wasn't sure how to answer. That if he had said "I am saved", isn't that overconfidence?

We can have a relative assurance that we are in a state of grace if we are indeed in a state of grace st the moment. That is somewhat normal. But we also know we can fall from grace. OSAS says there is never a possibility of a fall from grace, not even for murderous letcherous devil worshippers who cheat on their taxes and vote for Trump (or Harris). They are saved too if they were once saved. I don’t buy that. What I do buy is that we can have a right assessment in the moment, except that we are sometimes delusional and too self promoting to have the humility to know ourselves and our state.
