  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Dominion Voting Systems - the very ones Trump accused of fixing the election for Biden - just purchased by a former Republican election official!

More to the point, will Democrats now turn on Dominion? Will we see now see forums dominated by Democrats complaining about the machines? Will they now question the results of any election where polling is done with Dominion machines?

Speaking of questions, have you used a Dominion machine to cast a ballot or have you see one used?

Hang on a moment. What are the facts on the ground? What did Rupert Murdoch actually say about the 2020 election? In court under oath?

Why did he pay over a billion dollars (in Australian dollars) to cut that whole case short? It was a settlement. It could have been a lot worse by the end of the trial!

Well this thing called reality, and this thing called the MAGA universe.

In reality climate change is a thing, vaccines are a thing, surgical masks reduce viral spread because the water droplets are actually trapped within the mask even if the virus is tiny, and a billion other sites things that MAGA doesn't want to think about.

In reality Donald Trump actually has narcissistic personality disorder, as diagnosed by over 230 mental health experts that have analysed hundreds and hundreds of hours of footage over decades.

So if there is enough evidence that Republicans have bought dominion voting machines and actually corrupted them, then maybe yes in a few years we will see evidence of election tampering by Republicans.

History doesn't repeat but it rhymes.

In one case there's a fake accusation by the father of lies. In another case? The interesting thing on the ground is that Republicans now own the systems. Did the democrats own them when Trump told his big lie and whined and whined and whined and whined and whined until there was an insurrection at the capital?

Voting machines should have open source code and should have paper ballots for recount purposes. Dominion just never passed the smell test. Being owned by a Republican they won't pass the smell test either.

Paper ballots. Our county had paper ballots until pressured to get mechanical voting machines. They had an internal paper tape to record votes as well as the mechanical tally portion. These got used longer than the company that made them was in existence. That proved problematic for repairs.

Meanwhile, I know of a municipality that went to optical readers for paper ballots. Have a clear memory of a candidate calling for a recount, which was run with both candidates present and with TV cameras running. The reader came up with a different tally. It was run again, and it came up with yet another tally. IIRC, every time they ran it, they got a different tally.

A former classmate ended up doing time for voting fraud. The scheme, IIRC, involved registering ineligible voters and then casting absentee ballots in their names. These were paper ballots.

The Dominion system I saw has a touch screen connected to a printer to essentially serve as a ballot marking machine. This printed a piece of paper with a code in what looked like a QR square, but contained the tally information. This was then run through a reader, which may or may not be temperamental (it depends on the reader). But I don't think you can look at the paper and see the ballot choices. Could be wrong, but I think all of it is in that coded square.

There's also a thing called CF, especially here outside of what amounts to the Christian ghetto.

As an election judge at my old precinct we used optical readers on paper ballots but we backed it all up with hand counts. Nobody running the election went home until the results squared. And they always (eventually) did. We also had reporting of results by modem in an otherwise airgapped system, backed up by the archived paper ballots. The newspaper published the precinct results gotten from the county so we could then verify they got the correct numbers.
