  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Limited atonement !

God doesnt stop being God, who He is when its outside the soteriological context

Of course not. Which is why it is ludicrous to say that God decreed every lustful, prideful, murderous thought and act, in excruciating detail. Because that is not who He is:

1 John 1:5-7
5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (KJV)
There is no darkness in Him at all.

But my question is how do you know you are created in God’s image and elected for eternity?
Lol, if I was you, worry about yourself
So you don’t know if you are one of those elected one. That is unfortunate.
On the other hand, I am confident in my acceptance of Christ as my personal savior and in the promise of eternal life. I am a child of God, with my citizenship in heaven seald by the Holy Spirit.
If you're unsure, just turn to Christ, repent, and accept Him as your savior. And you will have eternal life and no matter what You will have the assurance that one day you will be in haven.
No need to worry about if God elected you or not elect you, just come to Christ and accept him as your savior.
We will discuss it on Judgment Day

Why wait?

1 John 5:9-13
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (KJV)

We will discuss it on Judgment Day
I don't need to wait until judgment day to know I'm saved by grace. I'm a citizen of heaven and have assurance of my place there, both now and in the future.

If you're unsure, don't wait—come to Christ, repent, and accept him as your saviour. You can also speak with a pastor or another believer for guidance on salvation.

And to clarify, are you the sort of Calvinist who thinks that every action and thought was meticulously decreed by God prior to creation? Would you see every sin as ordained? Would you see every event of history, and every mundane cat meme on the internet as decreed from the beginning?
Yes Eph 1:11
Sinful lusts are not from the Father:

1 John 2:16 (KJV) 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

The simple reality is that all Christians believe in limited atonement unless they believe in universal salvation for all mankind, in which case, they would not be welcome on this board.

There are monergists who believe, as Augustine did, that God has chosen His elect from the foundation of the world such that the salvation of those elect was purchased by the blood of His son, Jesus Christ, on the cross of Calvary.

Then there are synergists who believe, as the Catholic Church does, that the atonement of Jesus Christ is secured by any of a number of human responsibilities. The atonement is strictly limited to those who conform to God's requirements and cannot be applied in a universal sense to all of mankind.

Most folks, however, disagree with one or the other position, finding various faults with them. The crux of the argument is that it simply is not at all fair for God to show favoritism, either in choosing His people according to His own will, or by placing people in the untenable position of having to conform to some form of belief or behavior which will, in the process, leave the rest of humanity in a state of total and eternal damnation. Thus, the argument is attempted that the atonement of Jesus Christ is, indeed, for all of mankind, but . . . . . . the atonement will not result in the salvation of all mankind.

Not really ... the atonement is unlimited, the price was paid for all, but the effect on the individuals is limited. It's like all the doors to the jail are open (because of the atonement), yet some prisoners still chooses to stay in jail, so the doors being unlocked don't help them.

Yes, the atonement (aka the benefits accrued from the atonement) is, indeed, limited from your model. Simply put, the atonement becomes utterly meaningless for those who choose not to avail themselves of it. For all intents and purposes, the atonement might as well never happened at all for these individuals. They limit the atonement, putting themselves in the category of the synergistic model.
