  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's not forget that grocery prices rose significantly during the last 4 yrs of the Biden administration.
The Consumer Price Index for groceries increased from 252.7 in January 2021 to 305 in December 2023, representing a 20.7% rise over Biden's first three years in office.
This rate of increase exceeded wage growth, which rose 14.7% over the same period.
Food prices increased faster under Biden than under any of his five most recent predecessors, with a 20.3% rise in overall food prices during his first three years.
The increase was driven by economic policies that injected money into the economy when goods were limited for several months during the pandemic in his early time in office.
Prices for specific categories saw notable increases, such as cereals and bakery goods (25.6%), nonalcoholic beverages (21.4%), and meats, poultry, fish, and eggs (20.2%).
Egg prices, in particular, surged 229% from January 2021 to January 2023 due to bird flu outbreaks, which have since receded.
While grocery price increases were most rapid in 2021 and 2022, they have generally been cooling in recent months.
As of August 2025, month-over-month grocery price increases showed a spike, with the food-at-home CPI rising 0.6% from July to August.

Nobody's forgetting that. What we're now remembering is Trump's promises that prices on groceries (that old-fashioned word) would come down if he was elected.

As they should. If they want low low prices they can join us as the 51st state.

Ok.
Is he God...no.
Politicians from the Left and Right say all kinds of things during their campaigns they either don't do...or they end up not being able to do because of other factors.

Every time grocery prices have risen through the decades our households have to adapt.
More wants are put on the shelf to make room for more needs.
It's always been that way, just ask my great Grandma.

Interview with Trump spokeswoman about how the economy is bad, which is Biden's fault, but also simultaneously great, which is Trump's doing. She says so many words without saying anything.

BERMAN: The private sector jobs from ADP -- not great. And if you at the jobs reports going back to the spring, not great either. Why are jobs lagging?
LORI CHAVEZ-DeREMER: Well certainly, what we inherited from the Biden administration
BERMAN: But why is it headed in the wrong direction?
LORI CHAVEZ-DeREMER: We have the strongest economy in the world

What an interesting chart. Republicans seem to be shopping in some very special places! I wonder where.....

Or they are just more likely to refuse to admit to increased grocery prices

Interesting that independents have the most negative impression of things right now. You might think that dems would see that.

Those rates were pretty typical across the planet and were a post covid affect.

Why is there inflation now? Does it have to be rhere? What are the signs it would be getting better?

My reply stands.
The current situation has happened before.
If you don't live in the US...how are the prices in your country?

So, the stand is that we have had unnecessary inflation in the past, so it is OK if the government's policy is inflationary?

I'm in Ohio and I haven't seen any price reductions. I have a food budget of $100 a month. This month I spent $99.20. Last month it was $91.02, but it varies from month to month. Kroger used to be my only grocery store, but I switched to Aldi because Kroger was so expensive. I now shop at Aldi, and get a select few items at Walmart and Kroger.

Regarding dandelion, my local Kroger has had dandelion greens. I bought a couple bundles at the time. I have gathered wild dandelion greens and asparagus in the past. If I really wanted to I could go out and forage for food, but it isn't that bad yet.

I'm hoping grocery costs start to go down. Other costs of living, like rent and medical insurance keep increasing every year.

My point is, it happens under any administration...democrat or republican.
And it's always bad for those going through it and some think it's the worst it's ever been.
But not so, just ask my great grandma.
Nothing is ever fun when we're the ones going through it, but it's nothing new.

We aren't talking about Biden now thank you. We are talking about now.
The current price situation, right now is about 70% better than before.

Eggs are exponentially less and system wide prices are up about 6 cents on the dollar.
