  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone ever addsressed why we are helping a country (Israel) whose citizens have free health care and university educations while we are taking health care away from 15 million, doubling the cost for another 20 million, and have burdensome student loans?
My niece went to the "loan burning" party last weekend....the graduate was 45 years old--it took him 20 years to pay off his student loans.

Because not doing so is antisemitism, clearly.

Can you name a leader from Gaza who the Trump administration could involve in peace talks?
Wouldn't that be for them, the Gazans, to determine?

Can Gaza residents select their own representatives for international affairs without Hamas approval? In Gaza, even basic actions like opening a clinic require Hamas's permission. Would Hamas allow locals to negotiate peace with the US and Israel? You're not suggesting the Trump administration negotiate with Hamas, are you?

Since you've already determined the answers, the questions are merely rhetorical.

I didn't choose the answer; it's inevitable. Only Hamas can represent Gaza—anyone else faces physical threats if they try from Hamas.

No one said that you chose the answer, but that you had already determined what it was before you asked the "question".

Let me ask the question again: Can you identify a leader from Gaza who can represent its population?

Do you believe Hamas will let Gaza's citizens freely choose their leader?
Who knows? Right now the negotiations are to end the fighting. Traditionally, it's the war leaders who enter those negotiations, whether the people support them or not is a different question, which can't be settled until after the fighting stops.

No, I think the Gazans should chose their own leader. It would be beyond presumptuous for me to try.

Is it your position that the Gazans cannot choose anyone because anyone they choose will necessarily be either Hamas or Hamas-approved and the US and Israel cannot negotiate with anyone Hamas-adjacent?
