  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Did God make dinosaurs?

No i personally believe they came about when satan (actually the fallen angels) corrupted the earth in Genesis 6 with the nephilim. Dinosaurs were an animal version of the nephilim and were wiped out in the flood.

As Genesis states
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

Did God create the Dinosaurs and if he did then why did they go extinct millions of years before human beings came into the world?
Of course He did.
Genesis 1
Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

There's the good old gap theory. The first earth age had the dinosaurs. Then the earth was covered with water the first time. Then God started the second earth age creation.

For entertainment perposes only: The Gap Theory is a creationist belief that proposes a large, unrecorded time period or "gap" between Genesis 1:1 ("In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth") and Genesis 1:2 ("Now the earth was formless and empty..."). This theory, also known as the Ruin-Reconstruction Theory, attempts to reconcile the biblical account of creation with scientific evidence of an ancient Earth and the fossil record. Key elements include the idea that the original creation was destroyed by a cataclysm, possibly related to the fall of Satan, and then subsequently re-created during the six days described in Genesis.

I hold to Theistic Evolution.
This means God spoke power and knowledge into the earth's dirt and water, enabling it to "bring forth" life according to the template in that knowledge. Hence, life gradually came forth just as it appears to have by our scientific observations. Dinosaurs came forth naturally according to that process. They snuffed it, and eventually, mammals and human-like creatures evolved. The Majesty of God observed these creatures and decided to "make them in our image." "Earth men." Eventually, God created Adam and then Eve from Adam. The children of Adam and Eve merged with the "earth men." And here we are.

Yes HE probably did as the proof of their existence is overwhelming there, but when did HE make them?

I have it on reliable testimony that it was on a Tuesday afternoon.

And I thought it was Thursday!?

And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

I would say yes, and presumably because He decided to use dinosaurs to bootstrap our current avian life. But I don’t know for sure; God is inscrutable in His ways and so asking why He did this or that with creation is kind of secondary to just admiring the beauty of it in my view.

By the way there is a way to reconcile a belief in evolution and the dinosaurs with a belief in a young Earth and a seven-day creation process which is to say that God instantiated a world that had already been created in His mind and thus the artifacts we find such as dinosaur fossils are relics of that. But unfortunately most creationists reject such an approach and instead either deny scientific evidence or suggest contradictory things, like cavemen living alongside dinosaurs, which we know never happened.

On this point we also have to remember that Genesis 1 is above all, Christological prophecy as confirmed by John chapter 1 and Luke chapter 24.

For Christ our True God recreated man in His image on the Cross on the sixth day, rested in a tomb on the seventh day and on the first day, the mystical eight day of creation, LET THERE BE LIGHT, the light of Pascha, of resurrection, and the light of the world to come.

As we sing in my church “Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death!”
