Hi 1Tonne
thanks for responding. and it seems we agree quite a bit in principle - when you break it down.
i wonder where we differ and why (if at all) ??
Perhaps in our perceptions of an event ??
- specifically - maybe you're more likely to think a situation is natural and i'm more likely to think it's manipulated for outrage.
... but God’s work doesn’t depend on our recognition or the reactions of the crowd ....
I think so too.
I guess thats why i see a red flag ...
This video to me seems like a person going to a place likely to be volatile, discussing a wedge topic, generating a bad reaction from members in the crowd (who were stupid enough to oblige), and then sharing the video for recognition.
It seems contrived to me. Its an eye poke.
It seems like this video depends on recognition or reactions of the crowd.
Jesus warned against doing things for show: “Beware of practising your righteousness before others in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 6:1).
This is admirable and i would agree. we should not put on a show.
When we share the Gospel, our goal isn’t to get applause or shock, but to faithfully point people to Christ.
I guess each person will have to make up their own mind.
Is this a sensational show is or this done in a right or loving heart.
Is the event an eyepoke?
or ...
is an innocent loving person going out and sharing gods beauty - and getting pepper sprayed for it???
I guess it can be judged on a case by case basis
It’s also true that everyone has some image of God, whether from culture, church, or personal experience. Our responsibility is to show God as He truly is:
Yes - agreed.
I dont know about the use of the word responsible - but sure. I agree in principle. Its very likely that in doing gods will, we are requested to love one another. We are to do our best to show god to people.
As he truly is - thats a tough ask ... we cant know for sure if we are displaying god as he truly is, all we can do is try to get our intentions right. Have a sincere heart. I guess its better to be in error with a sincere heart than to be intentionally bad. One is a mistake - the other is a freewill choice.
Personally - i show god as "i believe" he truly is, and then, direct people to pray for themselves.
I do a handover to god.
holy, just, merciful, and loving (Exodus 34:6–7; 1 John 4:8). Jesus is the perfect image of God (Colossians 1:15), and He showed us what it means to love our neighbour, even those who oppose us (Luke 6:27–31).
Yes - agreed - more or less. (running out of time so cant nitpick on wording).
Even if people react poorly or misunderstand, planting the seed faithfully matters.
Agreed - basically. good sincere work matters.
God is the one who transforms hearts,
Yes probably true ... (sorry - running out of time, but no immediate objections from me on this. Maybe better to view the transforming of hearts as a cooperative between god and i - i have a part to play and god does too - which results in the transforming of a heart - i wouldn't quibble if someone got into the nitty gritty of it all)
not the reactions of the crowd (1 Corinthians 3:6–7).
I see a lot of what i would call - orchestrating reactions of crowds.
Although - i agree with how youre presenting the case of "how it should be".
Is the video to me illustrating "how it should be?"
or is it an immitation - masquerading of "how it should be"
That’s why people like Charlie Kirk have gone to universities even knowing they would face opposition. Over time, consistent, faithful witness can quietly change lives; even when it seems like no one is listening.
I honestly haven't seen any of charlie kirks videos.
I do avoid things on youtube which i think are engineered to court controversy - this might be why ???
How do you share the Gospel?
I try to get an accurate picture of god through prayer and scripture.
I then project that image to people - whoever im given.
when people ask what my secret is - i tell them ...
Look to god. Or - let them put two and two together.
Yes. As Christians, we need to take up our cross. Even if it means persecution.
Absolutely.
The courage displayed by people who might face life in solitary confinement. in tortuous conditions. Its hard to conceive.
I always wonder if i would have the courage to risk it all like those people have - if i were asked to. if / when the time comes.
I don’t see courage in the video.
Just an aside …
I actually think fighting is the easy bit.
i guess it seems natural to me to draw a line and then fight over it. Fighting seems like what you do when you lack faith and courage. ???
To stay silent when people are perishing shows a lack of regard for God's creation and his sacrifice.
Agreed - in principle. running out of time - but i wouldnt quibble over this
I guess - to me - when i see the video - my thoughts are -
i see a game.
that being said - i need more context - but basically - im watching a silly game. the less seriously i take it all the better. It's betterr to ignore it and stay focussed on my mission - of which i think this is a distraction from what i think is gods work.
I dont see someone courageously and honorably going into the breach and loving people with gods love.
I see someone going out and picking a fight - poking people in the eye - then displaying the results and waving up sympathy.
I just cant bring myself to get on board with it.
If that is who they think god is, then im afraid i'll have to pass.
