  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jesse Waters on Fox News, on the channel live, reported it. Did a single fact check even occur at some point? Evidently not. They thought he was important enough to include during his rant, along with clips when he's appeared on CNN, but didn't bother to fact check his bait? Yeah, it wasn't clever, which shows how bad it really is.
Don't know if you're familiar with the concept of "high trust societies" vs. "low trust societies", but we conservatives tend to trust more.

"Or words to that effect." ^_^ Are you just repeating something you heard and don't know better, or are you being dishonest?
It's been posted on this forum so many times, it's safe to assume most here have read the words recently, and therefore no need to look up the actual quote.

Oh man, that is classic! I'm going to print your post, have it framed and hang it on my wall.

ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live indefinitely after host's Charlie Kirk commentary

"In response to Kimmel's commentary and goading his audience to laugh at the killing,
Never happened.
Nextstar said the company "strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets."
All he did was call attention to Trump's insensitive remarks about Kirk's killing.

When asked by a reporter how he was "holding up," [after Kirk's death] Trump had said, "I think very good," before speaking about the White House's ballroom construction. Kimmel said, "He's at the fourth stage of grief, construction," Kimmel said through audience laughs. "This is not how an adult grieves the murder of someone he called a friend. This is how a four-year-old mourns a goldfish."

Fine, I googled it for you.

Kirk said, "If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, 'Boy, I hope he's qualified.'"

Hooray for right-wing censorship! Hooray!
ABC didn't have to yank Kimmel. They could have continued to air him for those affiliates who didn't pre-empt the show. Of course, ABC is in it for the money, so loss of revenue was apparently a factor. This, I supposes, is "right-wing censorship."

So we're all okay with cancel culture now?
Hilarious when someone's been punching you in the face for 10 years then when you finally throw a punch they scream "That's not fair! You can't do that!"

But this isn't simple disagreement, it's a public safety issue. I shouldn't have to work alongside a co-worker who might poison my coffee because I express a conservative opinion.

I applaud your modicum of effort, but what else did he say before and after that?

So the answer is yes. Cancel culture is okay when it's people you don't like. Got it.

But this isn't simple disagreement, it's a public safety issue.

lol what are you talking about? We're talking about Jimmy Kimmel, who didn't even say anything about Charlie Kirk. His comments were about Trump, Kash Patel, and the rest of the MAGAsphere.

You can watch the whole segment here:

Yes, and the right is the one doing all the punching.

Nobody's saying otherwise. But conservative opinions seem to include being OK with assassinating the VP and Speaker, judging by how they vote. Why is the right so violent?

You think the truth matters here? The right has worked themselves into a lather over this, after declaring that all their multiple assassination attempts don't count.

No, not when it's a matter of differing opinions, but when it's an actual safety issue.

I thought you asked a general question about cancel culture. I wasn't talking about Kimmel.
Yeah. Would you feel safe working around conservatives who applaud the murder of lefties and say more should be killed?

Trump's lack of concern is a safety issue?
Yeah. Would you feel safe working around conservatives who applaud the murder of lefties and say more should be killed?
Conservatives have been saying that for years. One of my coworkers stated that he supported armed insurrection shortly before Jan6 happened, so I already know what it's like.

It was the right move by ABC.
Did he play TikTok posts celebrating the murder for laughs? That seems to be about his speed. Bye bye, Jimmy. Next!

“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

I'm really tired of political leaders and commentators trying to deceive and demonize and shift blame to "MAGA Republicans."

Do you expect anyone to believe you haven't seen the clip? It was all over the news when it happened, and has been recently too. But I'll let you put forth a modicum this time.

I feel like everytime the far left gets crazy, their entire movement takes two steps back. This is very good. Justice is finally being served.

...With social much more potential craziness on the horizon too. The times are changing.

I agree. There’s plenty of real stuff from “MAGA Republicans” to criticize, like Brian Kilmeade suggesting that homeless people be euthanized, which is a million times worse than what Kimmel said, but barely registered a blip with the Magadonians.
