I was hearing that their was considerable push-back from affiliates, who intended to no longer air the show. I doubt the FCC will yank a license for political speech, but if affiliates pre-empt, in effect taking the show off-the-air themselves, then ABC is going to lose ad revenue.

Colbert's show is so expensive that it's losing money. Note that CBS intends to end the show, not change hosts.
